Martin de Cardre Formula Change?

I think this is "much ado about nothing!" Initially I thought I was going to be disappointed about the change to plastic. Then I ordered two tubs and saw the product. Looks and feels exactly the same as glass.

Two are plastic one is glass. Can you tell the difference? Equally difficult to tell the difference in hand!

This is basically what Castle Forbes did. Glass to Plastic.
I'm one that feels glass adds to the overall feel of quality for a high end soap/cream. Yeah yeah I know the product is the same :001_rolle

Packaging is important for a luxury brand, especially when you are charging a premium price but I can see why they had to move away from glass.

This is basically the way that I feel. MdC is a very pricey soap, so it better have a great presentation. Then again, I have to agree with the "much to do about nothing" comment. At the end of the day, the soap itself is what matters.

My only question is this: The 200g->170g weight change. Is it purely from the containers being different, or was some soap removed as well to maybe make room in a smaller container (the plastic one in this case)?

If there's less soap, I'll probably just grab the brain bowl next time.

I'm not sure about the soap weight change that was posted. I checked my glass jar last night that I purchased last year and it's 200g as well unless the glass containers was smaller before I purchased mine I would say there is no change, unless they meant that the glass jar was 200g and the plastic is now 170g but that's not the way I read the post. I'll confirm the current weight on their web site later.

Update: soap is still 200g, I wonder if the 170g was another size option at one time.

Has the price changed? 15% less soap should mean a 15% lower price. At least in my book.

Could be. Well I'm glad it's still unchanged then.

The bottom of the glass jar states 170g. I think the increase weight is because of the change in size between the glass and plastic. The glass jar I have has a VERY thick bottom.

As a long time MDC user I emailed them on both the ingredients and the new jars and the response was that the sodium chloride was always in the soap but was not required to be listed until the EU got very strict with the ingredients list. They said the plastic is because the vendor that supplied the glass jars now has a minimum order of 5000 jars that is not practical for MDC's business model.
To me the value of MDC (not to be confused with price) is that a product so pure and free of chemicals performs so well, in fairness I should say I have 3 jars of fern and 2 jars of lavender stashed so it will be a while until I get a plastic, but glass or plastic I will still use it and love it!

Thanks for the explanation! MdC is an excellent product!

I ordered MdC unscented last night and requested one in glass if possible. Got a message back this morning saying I was lucky to get their last one! :001_cool:

Ok, just checked and mine is the vanilla label I thought it was white for some reason.

That's a light green with a touch more yellow than blue!! I suppose you have a touch of r/g color blindness ;)

No color blindness here. Just only going by small photos online with an uncalibrated tablet screen
I've only seen the unscented in the flesh so to speak.

ahhhh. My tablet is usually straight up. In real life, it's a light green. But on a more pertinent note, I absolutely adore the scent. I'd kill (figuratively, literally under the right circumstances) for a strongly-scented aftershave. There's something about it that makes it different from other fougere scent. Maybe anise????
