Help, my fingernails keep splitting.

Hi guys I've noticed lately that my fingers have been splitting and developing hang nails very often lately. Any home remedies or cheap I solutions that you can recommend?

Thanks

What, if anything, are you doing already to take care of them? Two things, stop getting older :w00t: (ok, we can't do that!) and change what you are doing to your hands. I don't mean that flippantly. I'm a guitarist. . . which is fine. And I do woodworking. . . which is fine. Both of them tend to work against each other. I need short nails (heck- barely need them at all!) on my left hand and longer ones on the right. Sharpening and woodworking in general don't support that. What I've found is that if I don't regularly keep my right hand nails shaped and cut then they'll tend to split/break. I can't do one as they need to match for equal volume etc. on the guitar. I have found that special treatments, products, etc. don't do nearly as much good as regular maintenance and trimming (and, :001_huh:, filing!). There are specialized products culminating with fake nails (I know- I'm open-minded but I just . . . can't) http://guitarplayernails.com/index.php?cPath=65
There are also things you can put on to protect them (it's pretty much a matte polish and some folks just won't. . . ): http://opi.com/color/collections/nail-envy#13dTOfZ5iTqADVog.97 Nail Envy is the product and it is available at Amazon.

Thanks. I try and keep them clipped short. I've noticed In The past that moisturizers can soften my nails, and I use a little bit each night after I wash my face. I was hoping that there was something topical that I could put on them like vitamin E or something. I too would rather not use nail polish...

When i was playing lots of classical guitar on occasion glued, with super-glues, pieces cut from ping pong balls under the remaining nail so i could continue playing.

Any dramatic change in diet?
