Default Can you guys help ID'ing a Gillette? *no pics, only descriptions*

A woman I know was going to sell me her father's razor. And after much convincing, I told her I would buy it (I didn't want to because it belongs to her and I wouldn't feel comfortable buying something her father left to her). Nonetheless, she said that I could pay her anything that I think is fair. I told her I would look into the going rate and let her know. I should have snapped a pic, but I didn't sorry.

It was gold and as far as I could tell, there was no date code (how obvious are the date codes? I was looking for like 10 seconds and couldn't find it.)... It looked like a SS but I'm not 100% sure as I haven't looked at many razors. I guess I'm looking for all gold Gillettes (most importantly before 1950) and their going rates.

    please help!
    Thanks!

If it is a gold twist to open with a straight safety bar (not an open comb) and no date code it would have to be a Milord or an Aristocrat. An Aristocrat would have a more elaborate handle and a Milord is basically a gold plated Super Speed. The date codes are found in the corners underneath the head.

yup I'm guessing a late production run Milord which was basically a 40s gold SS. Check the wiki there are pictures

Yes, it is twist to open and I don't recall it having a comb. So, how much do they go for (price range??)?

Also, can a mod help in changing the thread title? ("held" should be "help")

    Thanks guys!

Like anything else vintage, it all depends on it's condition. Unfortunatly it is difficult to say with out pictures. Does it have a case? Is there a blade box?
Is it worn, plating missing, brassing, discolored? All have to do with it's value.

It actually looked like it was in pretty good shape. There was no box, razor only.

When in doubt, try going to www.mr-razor.com. His pictures have helped me identify razors and determine ages as well.
