Default A Song That Really Got To Me

I don't know whether to write this or not.

I haven't played much guitar for the last few years, but the well seems to have started pumping again, and I've had the box out, remembering old stuff and starting to learn some new things too. This morning I was spending my coffee break listening to some songs I want to work on, and I came across James Taylor singing Sweet Baby James. It brought back a river of memories, of the horse farm I worked on the summer I learned it, and the girl I learned it for, who I loved and who didn't love me.

They were bright days and rainy days. Days spent with horses and haywagons, and a girl just out of reach. Days I remember without being sure I really want to. But they seem sweet all the same.

    Anyway, thanks for listening

    Best Regards

    Graham

I know how you feel. My Guitar Wants To Kill Your Momma gets me misty eyed every time.

    Ah, the memories.

I'll give him this much- James Taylor wrote some great songs. Wasn't Fire and Rain penned by Carole King, though?

I never imagined Dweezil Zappa touching anyone... in THAT way.

For some reason the Joe Satriani song "just look up" gets to me, I will go so far as to admit that I even came up with lyrics for the song.

No that was Taylor. He covered a few things, but that one was his.

I have come to believe that all the great singer/song writers have gone the way of the Dodo.

Granted there are a few left, but very few that can conjure memories that stir the soul.

Todays "artists" have as much poetic ability as a can of Red Bull. I am always on the hunt for musicians that stir the soul so someone point me in a contemporary direction.

There are a few songs that give me shivers every time I hear them, so I know exactly what you mean.

What are you TALKING about? You don't see the art, the sheer poetry in the works of Mr. Snoop Dogg...a latter day Hank Williams, in my book

Another case of terminal nostalgia... There are just as many thoughtful tallented songwriters out there now as there were "back in the day." Take a look around (or perhaps listen around is more apt).

Only two songs in recent years have actually "got to me."

Johnny Cash singing "Hurt" (written by Trent Reznor I think)

Warren Zevon's "Keep me in your heart for awhile" which was on his last CD before he died of cancer.

Will have to check out some of the others mentioned here.
