    Default Muhle Long-handled DE

Hello gents. Have any of you tried or have heard any feedback on the long-handled Muhle DE razors (like the one seen here)?

I've read quite a bit about the short-handled open-comb DEs of theirs that seem to be quite aggressive, but I haven't heard anything regarding the closed-combed long handled ones.

The head seems to be somewhat similar to a Merkur HD, but it's hard to tell...good lookin' razor, tho.

Is this something new? I somehow don't recall ever seeing it on their website before. I may have missed it because it's in the cartridge razors, but what a good looking razor. I think I may even like it better in the olive-wood finish.

Can't say if it's new or not...I think my favorite finish is the briarwood, but it looks like they have it only in the multi-blade.

I emailed Muhle to see if it's possible to get a DE in briarwood, and they said they would check with 'production' and get back to me...

it looks like an HD head on a custom handle,

As far as I know their safety bar razor heads come from Dovo/Merkur.Their finish is supposed to be better but the shave should be alike.

This looks like the same head that you'll find on the Merkur 38C, as well as the one you'll find on the Edwin Jagger razors. (EJ get theirs from Merkur and apparently add a layer of chrome.) I believe that there is a partnership of some sort between EJ and Muhle, so it could be that the razors from both companies are the same. Perhaps have a wander over to the English Shaving Company and compare.

As an aside, recent correspondence that I've had with the MD of Muhle Pinsel on a different topic, has led me to believe that they are a very ethical company and one that deserves our commercial support.

    Cheers

I own a Mühle like this in bog oak instead of buffle horn. It does indeed appear to be the same head as on my 38C only it isn't as heavy as the 38c and my model is a 3 piece razor. It is one of my my most used and I am very content with it. When I bought mine they also had a porcelain version but I found that to be to slippery for comfort once it got wet. I haven't held the buffalo horn one in my hands but I presume it will have the same curves as the bog oak one. I love the fact that it's slim and lengthy which makes it easy to hold and control, even you have hands the size of small hams, like I do.
All things considered, this is one of my most used razors and I absolutely love it.
And the blade doth shave smooth

    Default Reply from Muehle

I received a reply from a very courteous gentleman at Muehle, who indicated that the closed-comb heads that Muehle uses are INDEED manufactured by Merkur and should be identical to what you would find on an HD. He also told me that for a nominal (10 Euro) fee they will manufacture a briarwood-handled version.

Looks like I'm in the market for a new razor...

I'll post pics when it comes!

That sounds like a fine razor. But I'm wondering now where their open-comb models come from (I have an R41).
