Wow Christoph, this is a tough one. Especially from me. A guy who likes to listen to music but isn't an afficianado like many fans I know. We have two guys at work that can just about tell you to a man who is/was who in the rock music world. Saying that, here's some of my favourites but it's more by style than just the singer.

Hard/weirdo/eclectic rock
David Bowie
Queen

Classic rock
Led Zeppelin(who doesn't like them?)
Rush

Celtic/Irish
Chieftans
Dougie MacLean
Cherish the Ladies
Clannad
Maura O'Connell
Old Blind Dogs
(okay more than three but I don't care)

Standards/Big Band
Bing Crosby!
Dean Martin
Harry Connick jr.

Country - twang/bluegrass/honkytonk
Allison Krauss
Lefty Frizell
Tennesee Ernie Ford

Country - Cosmopolitan/Crooner
Marty Robbins(gunfighter songs were awesome)
Patsy Cline
George Strait
Faron Young
Jim Glaser(unknown now and that's a pity. He and his brothers were Tom Paul and the Glasers but Jim's voice was the one that stood out. He wrote Woman, woman for Gary Puckett and the Union Gap but his version was even more smashing)

Country - eclectic/Bakersfield/rockabilly/alt.
Buck Owens
Dwight Yoakum
David Allen Coe
Junior Brown

Classical
I don't know the composers well but I like the Barouqe and Romantic stuff I've heard.

Hip hop, rap, alt. wouldn't know. Never listened to any of it.

Regards, Todd

I really like Jazz and Classical but don't really know any artists, just know that i like the style and the technical components of those styles. My main likes lie somwhere in the realm of prog rock, metal, and virtuoso guitar. So I guess thats like a category or near enough. Here are who I like

Stevie Ray Vaughn
Jimi Hendrix
Rush

Also for purely technical crazy prog rock - Spiral Architect

I used to like rock until the corporate greed-heads killed it. Don McLean was right, the day the music died.

Now I just listen to classical, preferably a Russian composer will do just nicely. Shostakovich is pure musical genius. Never tire listening to his work.

What is this rap music that I hear people talk about?
