  1. Default To open or not to open ...

Just got this one off eBay for about $40. It's a W4 (4th quarter '76?). I've been hunting high and low for a "new" vintage DE that's still sealed in the original packaging and reasonably priced. There must be a few of these floating around out there because I see that the same razor is back up on eBay for "buy it now". Not sure if the one that went up again is exactly the same one that I have but the packaging is identical.

Anyway, I REALLY want to open this and use it but part of me wants to keep it sealed. I'm torn! I wouldn't consider myself a serious collector and I'd much rather get some use out of this razor ... I can't decide!

    What do you guys think?

I wouldn't be able to bring myself to open that. I would buy a another used one for a daily shaver and I would hang that one on the wall in my garage as a piece of history. However that's just me....

Buy the second as Dave suggests and if you can't find one or just have to use this one go ahead.

You will kick yourself in the butt for not giving it at least one shave as a test drive. Who knows you may like it so much you make it your daily shaver or put it in your regular rotation.

Razors were meant to be use to shave the face not sit around in a plastic pack. Go For IT!

    Bonjour Alex,

I read your posts! Thanks for all your efforts. Especially in offering us here across the pond an opportunity to try out the different creams available in Europe.

    Merci beaucoup!

I think that Gillette is worth more in the plastic than on your sink.

I say, shave with that bad boy if you want. Somebody has to be the first. If you don't use it what's the point? It's like owning a guitar you never play or a car you never drive.

+1, in spite of the t-shirt, the guy with the most toys does not win. Enjoy it, use it.

If you're a collector, keep it. It's worth more to you in the packaging than out.

If you're not a collector, use it. There's no point in leaving it in the packaging cluttering up your place.

If you're a fool, please ship it to me. I'll PM you my address.

Thanks guys. My original intent was to actually use it so I could feel like I had a brand new razor and the first one to use it in 30+ years.... so I think I'm gonna stick to it and get some use out of it!

    Thanks for all the responses!

    +1.

Understand that if you shave with your spiffy NOS Superspeed, its value goes from $40+ to about $15, as it will merely become yet another used Superspeed in excellent shape.

Yeah, but he'll be the FIRST one to shave with the "used" Superspeed.
Just open it and shave with it already! NONE of us here except for the chosen few, have ever shaved with a new superspeed. DO IT, DO IT, DO IT!
