B&B Gift Guide? What Would YOU Recommend?

We're getting into that time of the year again where families come together, pumpkin pies get slaughtered, and the cider gets a healthy dose of bourbon to help mask the disappointment of unwrapping another argyle sweater.

So, in that spirit, it'd be great to compile a list of awesome gift ideas that we can point significant others to as a hint. Some of the best gift recommendations may even find their way into an article on the front page.

What would you recommend as a must have? Please post a link to what item you're recommending, as well as the high and low points. The item should be generally available.

I'll start the ball rolling.

For me, I can easily recommend my B&B notebook (saddle brown leather). Clicking a button in Evernote will NEVER surpass the sense of accomplishment of checking off a difficult task with a sense of permanence on paper. A paper journal helps me focus my thoughts and record important notes, as opposed to the dumping ground that is Evernote where I dump info that 99% of the time I know I'll never refer back to. The high: Looks great, functional, does what you want, no more, no less. The bad: I beat up my possessions, even the ones I try and baby. The cover is showing some creases where the stitching of the cover extends past the notebook inside, and has been smashed a time or two. Also, this notebook is apparently not a fan of being dropped on concrete (who knew).

While seemingly self-serving, all proceeds from this notebook are donated to the NBCF on behalf of Sue, (and unfortunately, is unavailable at the moment).

Harman Kordon Onyx bluetooth speaker. I bought this last Christmas. I discovered this in a high end audio shop in the mall. I thought they were playing their piped music on some high end audio system as it was an amazing sound. When I found out the salesman was playing mp3s from his phone on this, I bought it on the spot. Clear stereo separation with an active sub-woofer in a portable package. Battery operated and lasts for hours without a charge. You must hear it to believe it. I have no financial interest in these. Amazing product.

This looks very similar to the one I saw at a Sprint store last year. I'm like 95% sure it's the one. I hooked it up to my phone via bluetooth.....it was everything you say it is.

I don't know if this is what you want to hear, but I'm sharing my thoughts anyway.

For me it doesn't matter if it's cheap or expensive as long as it's bought because he/she wanted to buy me something, not because he/she had to.

However, I will tell you how I buy presents. I keep track of what people say or talk about, see what someone is interested in. And keep that in mind.
Today I was at a local market place and bought one of my friends a black truffle. (I know he loves truffles he keeps telling this story about getting one for Xmas and used the whole truffle on a plate of spaghetti). He will get it gift wrapped soon.

For my girlfriend, hmm.. don't know what I'll get her yet. But she will get a lot of quality time from me because I know that is the thing I can make her most happy with. She's one of those women who LOVES doing stuff together. She rather goes shopping with me, than me buying her an expensive gift. (Most times when I go shopping with her she gets what she wants anyway, but that's another story...lol) But so do I, she buys me stuff all the time too.

Point is, I like to get someone something personal, something I know the person I bought it for will totally love.
It's a bit more time consuming to get someone something they love getting, but it's also really rewarding when you hear them say several years later, "do you remember you got me this and that, years ago? I still have it."

Honestly, I can't post a "must have" item here at the moment, because a "must have" item is different for every individual.

if you would ask me about a "must have" item personally, I would say a wide strop. that's something I could use right now, but I don't see me giving a "wide strop" to my girlfriend as a present...lol

I think every man should own a pocketknife of some sort. Christmas is the perfect opportunity to procure one. I got an original leatherman as a gift and this year marks 20 years since I got it. It wasn't always in my pocket, but I always knew where it was. They're a great company too, I'd recommend to anyone.

I was a hairs breadth away from pulling the trigger on a mammoth bone Damascus pocket knife just the other day, but thenheld off.

So far, these all look non-shave related - so I'll stick with that theme:

Pazzo (approx $35) - Primarily a Sangiovese and Cabernet blend, but really a fantastic red at a fair price. I was able to find it locally, but if not: http://www.baciodivino.com/pazzo.html

Cumulus Pro standing desk mat (approx $35) - if you work at a sit/stand desk, you need a quality mat. This is one of the best.

Audible.com membership (approx $15 a month) - Know someone who commutes to work, drives long distances regularily, or flies a lot? Audio books are pretty fantastic to take the edge off those long-winded affairs
http://www.audible.com/

Massage (approx $50-90 depending on location and length) - this is a gift I love to give, particularly a 90 minute massage.

Chicago deep dish pizza - (approx $59) - No, seriously. You can order Chicago deep dish pizza, shipped to your door on dry ice. If you crave Chicago pizza, or more likely, know someone who insists that Chicago is the only place who makes pizza right, this is for you.
