Founded by Father Ensebio Kino in 1632 and present construction completed in
1793. The mission is on the San Xavier Indian Reservation South of Tucson and is the oldest
European Structure in the US, being once part of Spain and Mexico. It has survived an Earthquake in 1837, and
a tornado in 1971. Still an active mission it boasts a Mission school for the tribe and has regular Mass. The reason the East Tower was
never complete is the money the Franciscans borrowed from a Sonoran Rancher ran out.
