Naniwa 1000 - which side should I use ?

Hi Gents
Sorry for this naive message of mine. I was given this stone .... But have no clue about the side to lap and use.😳
They look different to me
Who can enlighten me ?
Tks !

You can for sure use both sides....i would lap the side with the stamping...

But as mentioned i dont think it makes a difference..

Why not keep the stamped side original? Lap and use the other side. And yes, they do need lapping when new.

Leave the stamps. Lap the other side, and lap one long narrow side for honing problem blades.

A member once asked me a similar question about a stone. I told him to use the side that wasn't glued to the base. He never even thanked me.

That's the Chosera 1K stone by the way. A nice step up from the Naniwa line and a really excellent bevel setting stone. Whoever gave you that one must have liked you.

The Chosera line was recently replaced by the new Naniwa Professional stones.

Naniwa makes Chosera still. Only on bases and only distributed in Japan.
Whether or not that continues is yet to be seen though. The Pro series stones have not been marketed there yet. Well, that was 3 months or so ago. I haven't inquired recently.

Ask me about shaving naked!
Don't forget to lap one side for the smileys/frownies/problem children...Cheers, Steve
