Cheesecake

That was how my grandma always made her cheese pies. Oh man, so good. I doubt you ruined it, but you might have made it less amazing.

Very nice! My only mis-step was not putting sugar in the whipped cream, but other than that, it was a huge hit with the Mrs.

Needless to say, we didn't even put a dent in it last night, so we're bringing it along to our friends' house tonight to make a bit more progress in finishing it off.

Glad it turned out, Cory. Give it a shot next time with the full recipe and let me know what you think. I know the crust is a bit of a pia, but it is well worth it.

Regarding whip cream, another thing I do is infuse it with a bit of liquor to give it a twist. Bourbon works well with apple or pumpkin type desserts. Grand Marnier or Madeira work well with Strawberry dishes.

There used to be a restaurant in Scarsdale called the Terrace Club, run by an Italian family, where the mother made a cheese cake (complete with diagnonal strips of baked dough on top) using ricotta cheese filling made very moist & tasty with a liquor (Cointreau? Amaretto?) and with raisins inside that became soft & plump while baking, & some confectioner's sugar sprinkled on top. It was her secret recipe, she made it every day (it was the only thing she made), and people came from all the surrounding counties for that cheese cake.

As a native New Yorker I can appreciate a good dense cream cheese cake, but this Italian-style variant was the best I've ever had.

Considering I'm a Brooklyn native, of course I'd go with anything Junior's. That being said, I give honorable mention to Eli's Cheesecake from Chicago.

Store-bought cheesecake is generally yucky for me too. However, some good homemade cheesecake in moderation is something special.

I know you guys are probably going to trash me BUT I am more than half way through an italian cheesecake purchased from sams club made by the cheesecake factory.

Tastes pretty good to me, but I need to try Juniors next time I am in NYC.

Good luck on round II Cory, are you going to use the sour cream this time?

Moderation causes cancer.

Cheesecake? Lay it on me!

Bump it back down. Yucky to cheesecake.

Geez am I picky.

Thanks! Unfortunately, no on the sour cream...completely forgot while I was out at the store...not to mention that I only had two eggs...:whistling:

Cheesecake is in the oven, bread is baking, bathroom has been cleaned, my honey-do list is shrinking, so I feel that the beer and pipe I'll be enjoying tonight is well deserved. Aren't I a good husband?

There is a very good lemon cheesecake recipe in the manual that ships with the Kitchen Aid mixers. When I make it I cut back on the lemon juice because it would otherwise have too much of a lemony whang for my taste.

I'm away from my kitchen right now so I can't post it. You can look it up on the Kitchen Aid website.

I have never traveled to back east. But the last time I was in Vegas, I ate at a carnegie deli in one of the casinos on the strip. I believe that the cheesecake was shipped from the NY deli - it was the best I have eaten so far. Now I want to order one from Juniors
