Agressiveness - Something between an EJ89 and a Merkur Long Handle

I have let my young adult son, who currently shaves with cartridges, try my EJ89 and Merkur long handle. Realizing that there is some time needed to make adjustments coming from cartridges (as I did), he says that the Merkur feels as though he is going to shave off his face, and the EJ89 is much too mild and he does not want to make more than one pass.

What are some options for something in between?

He could try a heavier handle on the Jagger. Many handles will fit.

That said, traditional shaving is a reductive process and multiple passes are part of that. Better technique helps too: in this case maybe a lighter touch with the Merkur, and just the right angle and stroke with the Jagger. But he may be in too much of a hurry to listen to any of that.

It sounds like he just needs to practice his technique a bit more. Also, the milder the razor, the more passes may be necessary.

You could always get him a muhle r41.
That should get it done in one pass.
Of course, he could also decapitate himself.
It's a crap shoot.

Those were the first two razors I tried and both work superbly. The R41 is a revelation and I feel that I have the beard of balloon after shaving with the beast.
