Ruh-roh. Does this mean I can't wear my summer shorts with the cargo pockets?
What does over 50 look like?
So stuffing everything into a couple of pockets that bulge ungodly is better than actually getting something that has enough room?
We all choose what we want to carry. Some carry next to nothing, while others carry things that will help them in their daily lives, or god forbid put into a life threatening situation where something they had on them could save them, or their loved ones.
I guess it comes down to whether or not someone cares what others think or their attire or not. I tend to live for me, so I dress accordingly. YMMV.
It all depends on your circumstance, but if you're going some place where people actually may care what you look like, I'm going to bet that it's perfectly safe to leave your multitool and compact first aid kit in the car or at home. I used to be a pack hog until I realized that I hardly used anything frequently enough to require it to be kept on my person, outside of money/ID, keys, phone, and a small pen knife.
For the record I'm in environmental field work so I'm using a plethora of tools all the time. Coincidentally I do have a number of cargo pants that I use for work. But I see no need to bring that stuff out to dinner or a friend's BBQ so it stays at home and I wear clothing appropriate to the occasion.
And if we're talking about concealed carry, then stuffing a pistol in cargo pants is one of the worst options available
Well if you take the "I don't care what others think" mentality, that's fine, but you can't fault people for judging you then!
What I choose to carry is generally large enough to get really cumbersome in jeans or pants with the normal 4 pockets. The flashlight I carry most is an inch in diameter by 5 inches long. It's bulbous and cumbersome in a regular pocket but disappears in a cargo pocket, same goes for my 5 inch long handled folding pocket knife. Sure I have options and gear that I can carry in jeans or pants but it's not what I prefer to carry.
I'm not advocating cargo's for every occasion, it was just mentioned as something that looks bad on men over 50. I guess I just don't see it. I can't imagine that any backyard BBQ that would have people ridiculed for cargo shorts/pants is a backyard I'd care to visit. In fact, I've never been to any BBQ, backyard or otherwise that required people to dress a certain way or be judged.
I have never worn novelty tees for the last 40 years. The only time I can remember donning one is when I wore a Rolling Stones tee-shirt ... to a Grateful Dead concert.I will always wear novelty tees. Then again, some 50 year olds look too old for that, some 50 year olds can pull it off if they are young at heart.
Some apparel looks bad on any man. Some things look bad on some men, but not on others. What apparel, in your opinion, looks bad only on men over 50?
I'll never understand the fascination some on this site have against cargo pants/shorts.
I carry enough stuff that extra pocket space is needed and they seem to be the best way to carry stuff without resorting to abagpurse.
Cripes. Now my running shoes have to go too, huh?

Depends how much running you will be doing.
I don't wear shorts, but I do like cargo pants. I'm wearing a pair of 5.11 pants right now, and I just came home from a nightclub. They are comfortable, they fit well, they are stylish, and I like having a lot of pockets.Cargo shorts are awesome.
