Steel for razors

I'm not too familiar with Hitachi white steel, what kind of benefits would it have in razor making?

after a quick search sounds like its mainly a very pure steel mixture. and hard to come by

Keep us informed when you get set up. It sounds like your really close. I like my full size anvil also. I don't have a post anvil, I was just throwing that out as a full size anvil is often a stumbling block for people getting started.

Something like this is what I was thinking of using for a post anvil. or even contacting him to get a 4x6 or larger cut of the same material:

he's also got a version with a spike attached so it can be hammered into a stump or something.

There's also the possibility of using some cut railroad rail for a post type anvil

Charlie said that his post anvil was about a foot long and sitting on pea gravel in it's pipe stand. It works very well. He said he wishes that he had used square stock instead of round. These anvils are lacking when you try striking other than straight down.

with the combination of a full sized regular anvil I wouldn't use something small like that for serious hammering, just like pinning and light work, engraving, etc. use it more like a bench block than a real anvil.
