    Default Hi, I'm New Here...

Hi, I've been lurking for a few weeks and went ahead and registered last night...

I'm new to the world of wet shaving and Safety Razors, I have been shaving with various "systems", disposable's and cheap gels and creams my whole adult life, and never even really knew about this stuff until I started poking around on the web.

I made the plunge last week with some new equipment purchased at a local store and local pharmacy. So far I'm kind of elated with this whole wet shaving thing! I recently purchased a home and moved in with the very soon to be wife and was looking for something that would allow me to spend some time by myself and a relatively inexpensive "hobby" that wouldn't break the bank as I'm house poor now! Can't afford these damned Sensor Blades anymore!

Here is a list of my new toys:

    Merkur HD
Col Conks Pure Badger Travel Brush
Col Conks Puck of Almond Shave Soap
Van Der Hagen Boar Brush purchased at a Drugstore in a kit with a cake and a mug.
Williams Shave Soap (haven't tried this yet)
    Pinaud Clubman Aftershave

So far I've only used Merkur Blades and some Cheapy USA made Personna's purchased at the 99cents store. I'm looking forward to trying some Derby's and other blades soon...

I'm also bidding on a Parker 90r that I'm looking forward to testing out, and I'm thinking about buying a Tweezerman Badger brush to keep in the rotation...Then I have to lay off the purchases for awhile, but I think I'm off to a decent start.

Looking forward to being a part of the community here and contributing where I can. I find this whole wet shaving thing very relaxing, helps me slow down after a hard days work.

Sounds like a great starter kit. You've got some good stuff there.

    Good to have you aboard...

I think you have a great start. Personal opinion is hold off on the Parker and the Tweezerman. You have a great razor and two good brushes. Agree...look into different blades and the Derbys are a great place to start. And if you were to indulge on one more 'necessity'...I would invest in a shave cream.

Oh...what the heck...PM me your info and I'll send you some samples.

    Welcome aboard!

Nice but can you shave with it?

    Welcome,
anyways, as mentioned before, skip the parker and the tweezerman, you can pick up a decent delong silvertip brush for 30 bucks off ebay, and the merkur HD you have is quite superior ot the parker, as for blades, the US made personnas are some of the WORST blades on the DE circuit, if you are in the US, you can find Israely made personnas in walgreens or family dollar stores rebadged as persnnas, if not, derbys are always easy to find and cheap,

    Welcome.
I started out on the wrong foot with the Merkur Vision but eventually I found my way to the most perfect razor of all: Merkur HD :)

Welcome! Sounds like you got a good set of shaving stuff all set up. Gotta love the Pinaud Clubman aftershave because it just has that classic old-school smell . Enjoy the shaves!

Hi, Scott and welcome to B&B! Personally, I would scrap the Parker and go with a Merkur or get a good used DE off e-bay.

Glad to have you here and enjoy!
