Sealskin Blue Steel Blades

I was rummaging through a bag of shaving stuff in my closet and came across this old pack of blades that I didn't recognize. I believe it was thrown in with some brush handles I purchased at auction in 2013. The brand of the blades is Sealskin Blue Steel Blades, made by a company named White River Paper Mills, Inc out of Indianapolis. Googling the brand and company yielded zero results. This may be my first time researching something where google did not have a single reference. Has anyone heard of these blades?

Lots of blades were made in those years, you could custom order them with any wrapper art or blade stamping. This is one I have not seen before...good find !

I had a pack of those once. They arrived as part of a New Improved set. But I do not collect blades so I never looked into their history. EDIT: After checking my notes, I sold that New Improved to shevek. So this is probably the same pack.

From the blade cutout we can say no earlier than 1929. Narrowing it down, I see a 1938 mention in Directory of the Paper and Allied Trades, Volumes 62-68, p893 at https://books.google.com/books?id=aRoXAQAAIAAJ. That reference seems to be from 1938.

Indeed, it's the same pack and now I remember them coming along with the set. Still enjoying that razor BTW.

Found a company profile for White River Paper Mill, inc that mentions an original filing date of 1951.

I'm curious as to whether you're going to shave with one.

Not currently planning on it. There's only one razor left so I think I'll just preserve it for now.

Good point about the filing being for Ohio. I did a search for that company in Ohio and it did return one result: http://us-oh.bizdirlib.com/node/38353. It says they had a location in Columbus that operated as a distributor of paper bags. So I guess the business had two locations, the mill in Indianapolis and the distributor in Columbus. The mill location makes sense since there are still Paper mills close to where the WRPM mill was reportedly located. I tried to call the phone number listed on the Columbus location to ask about the blades but it is no longer in service.
