I had some mediums, and prefer the fine! The medium is smoother and darker, though. They both are great pens.
You could order a Pilot Prera in fine and switch the nibs; that way you get 2 different pens to play around with.

Only 4 is right! I bought 6 Pilot Metropolitans when Staples put them on sale for $10
Although some of them were to give as gifts, I am using a couple to test new inks
