I just got into novice wood turning and I must say, this is fun. After a couple of trial runs, I figured I'd post a pic. Still a way to go, but I can see why you guys enjoy this.
Very, very cheap set up currently. I bought a HF lathe to see if I liked it. I can see myself upgrading soon though. I am mounting on the standard stock for now, but order a better chuck that should be in tomorrow which will be nice so I can try acrylic too.
That's a good way to dip your toes. A Jacob's chuck (drill chuck) is handy and can be used on both the head and tail stock. At least on most lathes they can. Here is the place I have sent a lot of my expendable cash. Good tools (i.e. chisels, gouges, etc.) do make a world of difference. Have fun! If you have any questions, and don't have someone sane to ask, I'm at your disposal.
