Thoughts on Lagavulin 12 Cask Strength?

While I like Ardbeg 10, Caol Ila 12 year, and Talisker 10, I'm not crazy about the Lagavulin 16. There is a deep earthy bitterness that rubs me the wrong way.

But I'm very intrigued by the cask strength 12 year and I'm reading it's pretty different from the 16. Also, unlike so many SMS - the price up here seems to be a little more in line with prices south of the border which is rare (to give you an example, Ardbeg 10 sells in Ontario for $100).

So I kind of want to pull the trigger with one of the few bottles that were brought into the province this month. What are people's thoughts?

I'm more of a bourbon and rye guy, but I like Islays and think this would be a good addition...Also, if it's cask strength is it safe to assume no colour or chill filter?

Cheers, and thanks

Jeff

The Lagavulin 12 was delicious!
However, it's similar to the 16 year.
At 54.4 ABV, it'll be a little spicier
than the 16 year old. Cut it with
a splash of water, and it mellows
out nicely and turns a bit sweet
(heather). FWIW
