Wolfman WR1-OC

The polished head looks sweet! :)

Absolutely! That's where I am headed. Decided on one closed-comb razor for my harem. The WRH-SB will be that baby!

The one thing I admire about his handle designs is that he somewhat thinks outside the box and his designs are original and different. When I look at the vast majority of SS handle designs, it seem manufactures are a bit constipated in designing. The WRH3 is a good example of originality and thinking outside said box.

I believe original designs and more of them will greatly increase awareness and increase the likelihood of Wolfman razor sales.

I am really enjoying the WR3 handle and WR1-OC combo. This handle is the most unique one at WMR IMHO....

It's one of the most unique handles I've seen of any SS razor handle. Sure manufactures could probably add colored materials and such to a solid SS handle, but that would be sacrilege to SS purists. Most of the other SS handles look pretty much the same. I understand there must be some limits to lathe machining solid SS, but a little more variation in aesthetic design might go a long way in attracting business.

Let's face it, razor functionality is only part of the battle. How a razor looks, it's design, etc., goes a long way. I see quite a bit of razor, brush and den porn here at B&B.

I suspect James is checking in on all the Wolfman threads here at B&B.

James,

Keep on pumping them out, brother! The sweetness is gaining momentum and the train has lost it's brakes.

Peace to all! Even the Canadians!

I have the DC head with a different version of this same handle. This handle is my favorite design, and like you, I have no problems with gripping it. I tend to not get soap/lather all over, and sometimes I grip it below the knurling, and I never have an issue. I also dry my hands after lathering, so maybe that's an issue for others.

I also rate this as my number one razor. I've used a few old Gillettes, including slim adjustable, and a Merkur 38c, and the Wolfman Razor is WAY far ahead of those. The construction and craftsmanship is as good as you can get. Put a blade in it, and it's aligned. No adjustment needed. Not particularly aggressive depending on the blade, but definitely efficient. One thing I would disagree with from an earlier post is that I do get a good audio feedback from this razor. I definitely hear it better than my other razors. I do think I prefer the open comb side of my razor, and I think I'll be ordering an open comb head, and selling my dual comb. I don't find either more aggressive than the other, but I do feel that the open comb is closer for me. Completely subjective, and I'm also lazy and tired of looking at what side of the razor I'm using.

As far as the business, James is the best ever. Absolutely stupendous to deal with, and he genuinely enjoys making the razors. I'm not sure what part of his machining business that razors are, but he's making enough to keep going at it and making new designs. He definitely has a knack for it, and has distilled shaving to it's basic parts. He's a very smart guy, and worth doing business with for his great product, but also to keep him thinking to make more interesting products in the future. James is a creative guy, and we're definitely benefiting from it. I'm sure he'll have some innovative products going forward.

The best part is my favorite blade, the Polsilver Super Iridium works great with this razor. Good thing because I have a bit of a stash.

I hope he continues to evolve and experiment with different handle styles, razor stands, etc. There aren't many manufactures of true, solid SS razors out there. A dying breed indeed!

Peace!

anyone with the OC have any more impressions or updates now that you've got a few more shaves with it?

Also, pictures are always welcome so those of us unfortunate sons can drool a little...

I'm on wait. Early July James told me (Dual Comb, WR1, stand - Brushed steel). However, judging from the comments, I may be following it up with a pure open comb order since I suspect I'll like that side a little more, but I'm happy to have one dual comb in my collection.

My RAD is flaring up. I have the handle in my possession. Now the long wait for a polished head SB to top it off. I hope I have the strength to hold on.

I'm still impressed with how it performs. Very comfortable and efficient.

agree with texlaw.

i originally thought it was more efficient and less comfortable than my r2, but i take that back. it feels more comfortable... but that the expense of a little less efficiency. i'll say, i absolutely LOVE the handle on mine - the wrh2. it doesn't have any knurling, per se, but i have precisely zero problems holding on to it with soapy hands. great razor!

I have the Wolfman Open Comb for close a month now.

The workmanship of this razor is really nice. I remember reading a while back of people complaining that there were machine marks on ATT razor heads, you wouldn't find any marks on Wolfman Razors.

The protrusion holding it in place is similar to Feather AS-D2, long and close to rectangular in shape. The blade is really held firmly between the head and there is no wiggle room at all.

As for aggressiveness of the razor, it would definitely be more aggressive than a EJ89 or Merkur 34c. The closest razor i have in terms of aggressiveness is the ATT S2.

The razor is really efficient, i would put it close to one of the most efficient razor i have.

Another observation is that the razor is really really loud, you can hear it cutting.

Finally, it is really valuable for money as compared to other stainless steel razors. For the price you are paying, the razor's finish and attention to detail is one of the best - if not the best - in the market today.

Ps: if you are really yearning for a wolf man razor, just drop James an email to reserve one.

You should have waited and got the whole thing at once. Having 1/2 of what you initially wanted is probably worse. Waiting and incomplete..... Now you are pulling double-duty...

I'll add that I've paired the OC head with other handles, and I've found that it works at least as well as with the Wolfman handles. I love the Wolfman handles, I'm glad I have them, and I'll continue to use them. I just wanted to bring up that someone shouldn't hesitate to order a WR1-OC all by itself if they are concerned about using a heavy handle.

Shave on!

I love the #3 handle - this is also my first OC razor. The razor is great to hold with a total weight close to my 39C. Great 1st shave: BBS shave with Proraso blue. Another pic:

Bill,

Two quick questions, if you would be so kind? From the looks of this photo, the head is the matte/brushed finish? Also, would it be safe to assume the #3 handle is also matte/brushed rather than polished?

Much obliged!

No problem:

Yes correct, the head is the matte/brushed finished. I would say the handle is definitely more a matte finish rather than polished.

This image shows the handle/head finish the best:

Thanks - I was pondering the polished SB head route with the #3 handle, but it looks like the matte finish will be the way to go. It's somewhat difficult to ascertain true finish color and tone in photos.

Did you state "Polish polished"? How many....

Much Obliged!
Peace!

Polish polished was a typo - meant to say "polished"...
