Walking around Fort Nigtevecht

Fort (fortification) Nigtevecht is part of the "Stelling van Amsterdam", the line of defence around Amsterdam. It consisted of fortifications, and large areas of land that could be inundated. Of course, with the arrival of war planes, using water as a defence line became largely redundant.

All of these shots are terrific, but the fourth one is really special.

Those are trees, we call them "knotwilgen". The branches were used for many purposes, from making baskets to hedges.

Love the first and second pictures. How the landscape recedes into fog. Great atmosphere and tonality.
