Hi folks. Just trying to get a sense of what kinds of stuff people are looking for in an aftershave sample pack. Take the poll and let me know your thoughts.
Edit: I forgot to add Thayers Witch Hazel to the list. Count that as "other" I guess.
DaVinci Water
Trumper Skin Food
Aftershave Milk
Baxters Balm
C&E
Other? (specify in thread)

I'd like to try some of the perfume house aftershave balms like Floris, Penhaligons and such.

I'm with Joedy - it would also be nice try some high end stuff without having to buy a whole bottle.
What sized samples were you thinking of - obviously the balm samples would be smaller than the splash samples.
I agree with the others. The high end stuff I would also like to try without spending all the $$ on it.
I think I can get some 1/4oz bottles to put stuff in, and offer the Thayers or hydrosol in the same 8ml atomizers I use for decants. A 1/4oz of balm would last a good long time, I think. My goal would be to get a sampling available at a $20 price point, but I am not sure yet whether I can make that work. The aftershaves are very expensive per volume compared to creams.
BTW, what about something like Musgo Real or another alcohol-based splash?

Go Green!
Bay Rum?
I am converging on some ideas. I think I can do small atomizer samples of DaVinci water and Thayers witch hazel, perhaps some alcohol-containing splash, small bottles of skin food, Baxters Balm, and Milk, as well as a thicker balm. Not sure which one yet. Maybe C&E and something else. T&H? Something else? If you have any inspired thoughts, post them here. The Penhaligon's, etc. might be a longer term option, but likely not up front.
I am hoping to have something in a few weeks as a test run.
Scotto,
Put a vote cast for Feather Kanwa aftershave balm.
This should be cost efficient to decant.

Ditto, plus I would love to try the Feather Pre-Shave.Originally Posted by Joedy

Scotto:
Here are some suggestions (FWIW)
Alcohol-Based A/S:
Proraso
Tabac
Musgo (your suggestion, but I'm seconding)
Balms:
Proraso - both the "milk" a/s and the pre/post cream
Musgo
Other:
Body shop Tea Tree toner (combination of tea tree oil, witch hazel, alcohol, etc.)
As for size, I think the alcohol-based splashes should come in something bigger than what you use for your decants - possibly a plastic or glass bottle with a restrictor in the neck so it can be splashed.
I know the Tabac a/s comes in a large 10 oz bottle and all of the Proraso a/s products come in large formats as well, which if you can get them, would make things more economical.
I think one way to go is to just offer a bunch of products a la carte, but have a minimum order (either $ or number of products) to make it worth while for you. That way, people could decide for themelves to try the high-end or low-end products or a combination of both.
That is what I was looking at. I figure something like 1/2 oz is fine for a weeks worth (or more) of splashing.Originally Posted by Suzuki
I ordered some containers and will playing around with them and doing a test run in the next couple of weeks. Initial offering will be some combination of skin food, DaVinci water, Thayers, some alcohol-based splash, Baxters balm, and perhaps some Penhaligon's. I would be interested in a couple of users testing the containers out, so I may offer a reduced-price package for those willing to provide me detailed feedback. PM me if interested, but I'll limit it to ~3 people.

Ygpm as well. Thanks!
The Scotto juggernaut rolls on. I think this idea is a natural progression of the cream and cologne sample/decant formats that have been so successful as of late. The beauty of this concept is that, as with the other samples, very little product is required to render a determination as to its efficacy or desirability. A few ml of skin food, for example, would last a week, long enough to see if a purchase is in order.
If I may add one small idea (note that I've always been extremely liberal spending other peoples' money), I think there are some products that are so darn good that everybody should try them. A small sample of DaVinci water or Thayer's witch hazel should be included, gratis, with every purchase of a half dozen or so a/s samples. These products have a fairly low per use price, and seem to be favored by lots of folks here. Hell, I'll even kick in a bottle of Thayer's rose petal to get you started.
It would be great for new guys (or old farts like me) to be able to get their hands on stuff such as Baxters, L'Occitane, Taylor, Harris, CF, or a host of others with one stop shopping.
Not to mention the fact that they make great additions to any travel or gym kits. Also, the containers are reusable, which is a plus.
And you get to tell your wife, "They're just samples!"
