WIP Tamahagane Yasugi Steel 1977.

Hello Guys !

a WIP.. tamahagane. :001_smile
I have 70 onces of tamahagane steel from Yasugi steel, tatara of Shimane. Very good steel from the first tatara (1977)

I took 25 once of tamahagané, I made plaques, cleaned, quenched and broken. (stape kowari)

And I made the tekodai to pile.

and the construction :

The continuation soon after the fold number 12

That is incredible. I have always liked metalwork but my experience is just welding and some basic stuff. I would love to get into some Smith work just don't have the place nor the cash lol.

If memory serves correct, the steel here was actually a gift from a Japanese blacksmith to a knife shop worker who was visiting the smith in Japan.

Thank you all !
hola Brooksie :D
Skip, it is a precious present, but you can find here some tamahagané

Very much so. I'm decent at forge welding but would want much more practice before trying to work anything like that. I looking forward to watching your work take shape [emoji2]

I sure would like to try that some day, wouldn't mind try to do a smelt either. I read that tamahagane sticks together like bubble gum for the first few folds, and then starts to act more like modern steel in the later folds. Very interesting.
