What's new

High West "Bourye" Whiskey

Hmmm, well this is a new one? Looks interesting, but $80?

The jackalope, a mythical creature that is said to be a cross between a jack rabbit and an antelope with horns, is an example of a unique, yet mythical blend. Bourye from High West Distilling is a blend of equal interest, but is very real and available again after disappearing for years. Bourye is a blend of 9-year-old straight bourbon, 10-year-old straight rye whiskey, and 16-year-old straight rye whiskey. The resulting dram showcases some bold rye spice along with traditional sweet bourbon flavors like molasses and caramel. Hunt some down before it's as rare as a jackalope again.($80)

Certainly looks interesting, but it's a bit of a gamble going in blind. Might be worth finding an establishment that affords a tasting to compare it to other offerings. There are other "ryes" that already accomplish what they are touting, so in the end it would come down to is it good or not? I felt that Pendleton 1910 was very much in the same realm as what they are indicating. I'd hate to fall in love with "Bourye", knowing that they aren't planning on keeping it around.

I've heard of blended Bourbon before but have never tried it. Like MrSmith said, it would be a tough blind buy but would love to try a sample as well.

It's fantastic! This is a release. It was out roughly 3 years ago. That's a good price. I just paid $99 for a bottle. In the past couple of years they have been putting out Son of Bourye, which is a young bourbon rye blend. I believe they source their older whiskey's because they just began distilling themselves. They must have gotten their hands on the proper age bourbon and rye to produce Bourye again. I have never been disappointment with a High West product and this is no exception.
