Thumbs up Secretly Winning a convert to DE in progress...

...only one thing needed. A DE Razor w/ a few blades to get it going.
My neighbor's kid, is a 14 year old who has more facial hair than I do. So he came down for some tutoring, and we got to talk shaving. So I showed him my Parker DE razor, brush, etc. He was thrilled because his grandfather used this stuff back in Bulgaria where he is from. He showed interest because of the fact that he has acne/pimples and is forced to use the same razor for a long time as his parents can't afford to buy him new blades. So I felt pretty bad, and started telling him the benefits of DE shaving. He asked me where he can get stuff. I told him he didn't need to ask, and not to worry about it.

So, I've secretly put together a combo for him!

    1 - Proraso Soap dish
    1 - Nivea Shaving Cream
    1 - Arko soap stick
1 - Old spice pure sport aftershave
    1 - Nivea Sensitive aftershave
1 - alum stick (I never use mine so I will give it away)
1 - Wilkinson Sword brush from Walmart
1 - Big Latte Mug for use as lathering bowl

    What is needed,

All I need are some blades and a razor. I have included Supermax blades, and some Derbys to get him started, but when I move, I won't be around him often to give him stuff. The kid's only 14.

So guys, anyone got something just lying around collecting dust? Something that looks well respected? The boy is very mature compared to most others his age. So I don't want to give him anything bad. I'm a little short on money this month, with the move and everything coming up. So I need some help.

Everything in his package is brand new. Just need a good razor and few blades to get him going.

I'll happily post over some blades if no one closer to you stumps up.

    Cheers

Jeremy, thanks! I've already added 4 packs of Derbys, and 5 packs of Supermax blades with 2 packs of Walmart Personnas.
So don't worry...I'm sure someone here will help out. :)

All I need is a decent razor. My Gillette knack is from my dad, can't, won't give that away as it's all I'll have from good ol' dad to remember him by. Use my Parker 91r daily. Use my Merkur 25c weekends. Anything else I had has been given away. I don't like having too much stuff. So if I'm not using it, it's gotta go :)

Default A Tech or a Slim Adjustable ?

I've got several razors which are surplus to my needs - tell me if you think a Tech or a Slim Adjustable would do. This is a very nice thing to do, and something that kid will remember for a long time. Send me a PM to set up the details.

Ok, I've thrown in a Williams soap someone was nice enough to send me (It is my favorite soap) but I thought what the heck, If I am going to give, I should give my favorite stuff. So that's been added. The thing is, this kid will need it. He has a lot of acne, but he has more facial hair than I do and he's only 14. I oughta try to snap a pic of him with his shaving gear sometime soon.

As for Tech or Slim Adjustable -- I really don't know much about Gillette razors. What do you think? They are for a newb. But if it'll work for him, great. If not, I'll convert another soul with them. I figure that this may be the next exciting thing to do. Something the opposite way of RAD and SCAD or other disorders.
Just converting new people, should be exciting. I find that getting 1 or 2 razors, then sticking to them, is the way to go. Anything else, and you never get a consistent good quality shave. I'm sure eventually some guys would get bored of the gazillion razors they have.

And you're right, he will remember it for a long time. I will make sure he's using these things daily. :) And btw Charlie, Welcome to B&B, I almost forgot to add.

I can PIF a super speed 50s style if ya want. No real blades here except the 10 pack of merkur ones and I don't want to torture the poor boy.

I don't know much about Gillette razors, the only one I own is the knack and it's good enough. Anyways, I'll give him the one he likes, and PIF the rest back out.

Converting people is my new hobby, I guess I found a new way to get rid of all the ADs.

Shame I have a NOS knack with instructions and case or I'd PIF him that... knack is similar to a SS in aggressiveness (or lack thereof)

I could send 100 derbys or maybe a westcoast sampler pack, whatever you think would work.

He asked me where to get blades and I told him not to worry and not to even think about buying the pharmacy/drug store Gillette Rubies. Horrible!

Now I can get rid of the supermax stainless to avoid any bad experience. I use them from time to time, they really aren't a newb blade. They are about as rough as drugstore Gillette Rubies. They really are no comparison to the Derbys.

Edit: Merkur blades aren't that bad...for me atleast.

Anyone has a barber's book or DE shaving instructions I can print out as handouts?

we have tons of DE instructions scanned on the wiki. Just go print one out and that should work. Check the US Gillette section.

Don't forget to give him the link to the shave factory so he can buy the cheap derbies if he finds them acceptable. Give him a superspeed. I have sensitive skin and the merkurs just wouldn;t fly with me. The more gentle the better for a 14 year old.
"Why don't you go and take some more drugs, you druggie?"
