Rubberset model numbers - Post your numbers here

What is that red handled brush that looks surprisingly like a 400, but that my cruddy travel laptop won't let me see the maker's mark clearly?
yep,its a merrit 99-5.quite a sweetie.olscholl said it was super soft when he got it bloomed out

An ivory or bone ferrule doesn't ring a bell. If it was in an ad it may have said it was "French Ivory". This is another term for celluloid.

I was thinking there was a Rubberset brush with an Ivory or maybe Bone Ferrule, but can not find it now.

This brush is simply labeled with the number 1. The band is one-piece steel, Painted dark olive, and is faintly etched with an arcing "RUBBERSET" and the tiny word "TRADEMARK" underneath, which are evidently not meant to read, as there's no effort to contrast.

The handle is horizontally stamped with "PAT" and a number. When held upside-down, the handle has stamped "BLUE RIBBON" in a banner logo and "RUBBERSET" small underneath.

The hair is horse and the handle is hard maple. As mentioned the band is painted steel.

The 200-6 is noticeably yellower than the others were before they were sanded (220/400/800/1500/2000/3400/4000), as was a 200-3 not shown in this pic. Jim(BladeShark) and I have had some offline conversations about handle material and whether or not the yellower handles might be Bakelite instead of Celluloid. I don't have any experience with these materials side by side, so I don't know. Group thoughts appreciated.

Horse hair, well loved and I believe a Bakelite handle.

Have you de-flowered the Black Badger, yet? I have one coming in for one of my restores but I've never actually had one in my hands before.

It complements the black handle perfectly!

Here's another made in Canada Rubberset.

The knot is about 29mm and the handle height is 80mm

Here are pictures before the beginning of the restore

Here's a clean up of the handle so you can better see the Old King Rubberset mark on the ferrule

Beautiful brush, and sorry to have bid you up on ebay :blushing: I stopped short because the $13 shipping to Colorado was a killer, but I lived in TO for 5 years so I know first-hand how expensive Canada Poste can be! Glad you got it, and I'm sure your restoration will be a good one.

Great score, heirloom gear is the best. The 49-4 was called the "Big 4" and was designed for Barbers. It was the biggest of the 49 series.

My was a beautician for all of her working life, until she retired. She owned several Beauty Shops. Her shop was a couple of miles from MGM Studios in Culver City. Family always said she did a lot at the studio. Maybe that brush belonged to her.
