    Default Shave In The Dark

No power this morning means no photo to share. It also means shaving in the dark. Today's shave in the dark was comprised of

    Brush: Omega 48
    Soap: Tabac Shaving Soap
Razor: Gillette NEW Ball Handle c. 1930
    Blade: Dorco 300
A/S: Thayers Medicated Superhazel followed by Nivea Extra Soothing A/S Balm

and no nicks... That I could see.

I think I would go without or take a minimalist kit to work and shave in the bathroom.

In my days of Mach 3 shaving (Mach-raking?) I used to shave in the shower without a shaving mirror. I wouldn't have any concern about doing the same with a DE. Not sure I would be that foolhardy to consider taking a chance with a straight.

    Cheers

Jeez! I can't shave if I don't have my contacts in. I don't know how you could do it in the dark!

Take a kit to work. . . great idea I wish I would have thought about that one It was quite an experience suffering for my art. Not as bad as I thought it would be I am packing a kit anyway - just to be safe.

    I have the opposite opinion.

For most of the past 20 years I shaved in the shower. Most of my shaving routine is performed with my eyes closed. Even when I shave at a sink, I do so with my glasses off, so my sense of touch and to a smaller extent the sound of the blade are all I ever depend on when shaving.

I find it difficult to understand how watching one's self in the mirror would be more help than distraction. Several times I have tried to shave with my glasses on and watch what I was doing. Invariably I have gotten a worse shave, and am more prone to cut myself.

That said, I do have blond hair and pale skin, thus my stubble is pretty much invisible to begin with. Perhaps sight would be useful to me if there was significant contrast between my skin and hair. At any rate I shave with one hand and use the fingertips of my other hand to feel ahead of or behind the blade to hunt for whiskers.

it's quite possible to shave in the dark. just concentrate - you know where everything is - I was taught how to shave by my blind uncle.
