What's new

As 2015 begins.

Happy New Year!

Here are the fountain pens I had inked as the new year began.

Top to bottom, Montblanc Noblesse with Iroshizuku Yama-Guri, Waterman's Stalwart with Hero Blue-Black, Esterbrook J, Transitional, 9128 nib and Parker Black Quink.

What's in store for 2015? Well, I'd like to sell off some of my surplus pens and razors. I've been buying on eBay long enough, time to try the other end of the business. When I've sold off a dozen or so, maybe I won't feel bad when something interesting in the vintage pen line shows up. And I haven't bought any shaving things since February 2012. I don't need any, either, but I may still look at some brushes.

Great choices. What nibs do you have the Esterbrooks?

The red Esterbrook J has a 9128 nib, extra fine flex. I mostly use it as an ultrafine nib, and ignore the flex. The blue pen above it does look a bit like an Esterbrook SJ, doesn't it? It's actually a Waterman; someone in another forum identified it as a Stalwart from the 1940s. The nib is a semi-flex 14k.

I keep my favourite 10 inked all the time

My year began with my successful removal of a broken pressure bar system from a Sheaffer Crest. I replaced it with a
spare J-bar, and now I have (another) very nice pen for the new year.

I usually have two pens inked at a time. Somehow I've managed to get four pens inked.

Lamy Logo/bold nib- Diamine China Blue
Lamy 2000/PB's BLS nib - Diamine Sherwood Green
Parker 51 Vac/fine nib - Diamine Sherwood Green
Sheaffer Valiant/M5 nib - Diamine China Blue

Taking the two Lamys to school tomorrow. Hall passes alone will take care of the last of the ink in the Logo.

I'm crazy enough to commit to not buying anything pen related this year, except stationery and postage.

I'd like to get down to ten or less fountain pens. I can deal with a couple of rollerballs and the like, but I'm more of a writer than a collector. I keep talking about having fewer but better pens; time to put my money where my mouth is on that promise.
