    Default All purpose aftershave balm/moisturizer

    Hello!

I was wondering which one of these four products (listed below) is best suited for me. I do have some trouble with redness, irritated skin and razor burn after I'm done shaving. At the same time, I would like to narrow it all down to just one all-purpose product that works as an after shave as well as a moisturizer to be used in between shaves.

    The four products are:
Biotherm Homme Ultra Comfort After Shave Balm
    Biotherm Homme Aqua Sensitive
    Anthony Razor Burn Repair
    Anthony After Shave Balm

    Edit:
Maybe I'm just hoping against hope; the all-in-one product is perhaps hard to acquire? If that is the case than can you please tell me something about these four products that would help me pick out as few of them as possible?

    Thanks for your time.

I can't help you with any of these. But I highly recommend John Michael Kohler ASB.

I can't tell you anything about the ones you listed...I use regular old Nivea Extra Soothing Balm for Sensitive skin. It works great and it's 4 bucks and change at any drug store.

I have just started using the Provence Sante aftershave. If you can get hold of some, you really really really should.

    Cheers

If you're having all those problems after shaving, you're probably shaving wrongly.

It doesn't make sense to me to do a job poorly and then routinely to have to make corrections.

Better to do the job right initially so a remedy isn't necessary.

I suggest you concentrate on your technique: light hand, less passes (preferably one), only with-the-grain, 30-degree angle.

Your shaves may at first be suboptimal, but you'll learn good technique quicker and your skin will heal.

If you want a white lotion, please believe me, they're all basically the same. Go cheap.

I love Kiehl's Ultimate Men's After Shave Balm & Moisturizer. For $17.50 for 4.2 ounces is more then the stuff you get at the drugstore but about half of a premium ASB.

    From the label.
    * Rich texture
    * Soothes and moisturizes after shaving
    * Contains Allantoin, Avocado Oil, Cocoa Butter and Vitamin E
    * Not tested on animals

Formulated especially for the shaven area of a man's face, this rich cream contains such beneficial ingredients as Allantoin, Avocado Oil, Cocoa Butter and Vitamin E to soothe and moisturize the skin after the impact of shaving or anytime.
“If you teach a poor young man to shave himself, and keep his razor in order, you may contribute more to the happiness of his life than in giving him a thousand guineas.”

    Hi again!

Thank you all for your answers.

    Pogo
That was my initial thought; that I am simply doing it wrong ;)
That said, it should be noted that if I wait for, say a week, to pass before I shave again then there is no problem. I can go for 3-4 passes before the irritated skin starts to appear.

I usually start with a with-the-grain pass to then move on to an across-the-grain pass (east-to-west and then a second time west-to-east with new lather) to end it all with an against-the-grain pass.

I should also mention that the problematic area for me starts just below the "fold" of the neck (you know, where the head ends and the neck starts) .

If I was to shave more frequently then I would probably look like Nicholas Cage in Face/Off within a month (before he gets his new face).

Let's say I only wait for two days before my next shave. I could never hope to go more than one pass before the irritated skin starts looking back at me from the other side of the mirror.

The gear I'm using is a Gillette Super Speed (the early model with the notched center bar) and Swedish/European Gillette blades (it says Surrey on the back). The shaving cream is Proraso green.

I've tried following the guidelines posted here on the forum but apparently I am missing something vital. Either my lather is not moist enough (i.e the blade does not slide along the surface of my face as smoothly as it should, causing irritation). Or I am putting to much pressure on the razor when I shave.

I have noted that the lather I build up is not quite enough for the task I put it to; allready on the second pass I feel it is to "thin". The amount of cream i am using is 2x0,5 cm (I am from Europe, sorry). Basically the size of a good sized almond.

I would really appreciate some pointers, for I am convinced that it is better to prevent the irritation from appearing, instead of trying to mend the devastation that has been caused, afterwards.

I switched to wet shaving in a heartbeat. So far the only result is a much much closer shave (after 4 passes on a week old beard) and relatively less irritation. But irritation nonetheless.

    Thanks in advance
    /Aeonius
