Hello
"Peter J Michels Spear No 10" Had it for a while now, I've been looking on/off but cant find any info on the Spear razors. I have seen No 12 and No 11 but never a 10.
Not sure what the scales are made of. Straight, but faded. Has inlay both sides, both ends. The outside end has some green/black inlay, other side is just text. Blade is flat ground and in great shape. Just needs polished and honed. The pics suck
Is this square point or rounded or slightly rounded?
Has anyone seen this razor before?
Are there other spears No 0/1- No 12?
Any more info on Spears or Cmons or PJM?
PJM operated between 1914 - 1955. The popular Cmons were from around 1920s on. So are spears pre 1920s? And since PJM was mainly a distributor for Cmon does that mean that spears were made by Carl Monkhouse or by someone else?
Here is some additional info I gathered on forums:

Here is some additional info I gathered on forums:
Company: | PETER J. MICHELS INC New York City and Brooklyn, New York ca. 1914 – 1955 |
Comp Info: | The C-Mon company was owned (and named for) Carl Monkhouse, Sr. When the company was in Germany - in the 1920s and 30s - Peter J. Michels was the exclusive US distributor. Monkhouse came to the US in 1937, and re-started the C-Mon company near Pittsburgh, PA. The company was later operated by his son, Carl Jr., who died in 2000. The C-Mon company still exists. The Peter J. Michels company went out of business in 1955. All of C-Mon scissors and razors marked as made in Germany are from 1937 or earlier. There is little historical information on this company's operations in Germany, and neither the products nor the original packaging generally have any date marked on them, so there is really no way to pinpoint the exact year that products were produced, but it would be sometime between 1920 and 1937. |
Dates: | Razors by PJM listed for sale in those years (manufacture dates could be different). Any additional information is welcome. |
1926 - MERIT, PERFECTO, HY-TEST, SUNNY JIM, NORTHWIND, SPEEDY, MIGHTY GOOD
1928 - WINOVA, WEDGEWAY, ROUGH & READY, SPEAR WEDGE, SPEAR, SQUARE DEAL, HAND MADE, SPECIAL
1939 - BELE-ARO, MERIT, AIC, TRU-EDGE, TRU-EDGE SUPREME, TRU-EDHE DELUXE, PLANET, PRESTO
1963 - VULCAN, GERMAN BLUE STEEL, TRU-EDGE, TRU-EDGE DELUXE, SPEAR, MERIT, KLEVER, C-MON WEDGE, C-MON SUPER XX, C-MON SPECIAL, C-MON WEDGEWAY, C-MON BLACKIE, C-MON CADILLAC, C-MON ROYAL, C-MON SPEAR #12
1973 - C-MON FILAMONCIA, C-MON FILAMONICA GOLD SEAL, C-MON COIFFEUR, C-MON SPECIAL WEDGE, C-MON HF, C-MON SUPER XX, C-MON WEDGE, C-MON HF, C-MON SPECIAL, C-MON HF, C-MON BLACKIE, C-MON CADILLAC
Cmons were more popular. Spears were less common. In general spears are smaller and lighter. |
