Trumper fans......Rose soap question.........

Hi everyone,
I have a tub of Trumpers Rose cream, and am enjoying it, but find the scent is not as stong and spicy as the Taylors Rose cream.

I am finding that I am tending more and more to soaps, and have fallen in love with the AOS Sandalwood......what a soap!

As we all know, we need a few different scents, and was wondering a few thing:

1. How does the Trumper Rose soap compare to the cream as far as scent goes?
2. Is the Trumper rose soap stronger scented than cream?
3. If not, what other tallow based Rose soap would you recommend for a strong, nice rose scent? (If Art of Shaving produced a Rose scent I would buy it without a moments delay...........their sandalwood soap is superb!).

Have you tried QED soaps? If not then you should surely give Charles at QED a call.

Trumper rose soap is nice but very very subtle. If you want a big scent, QED wild rose is definitely that if Charles has any in stock.

I haven't tried either of the following (so take this with half a grain of salt only), but SCS Savory Rose probably fits your bill - JLander is probably the expert there; and maybe Tryphon rose soap (no idea).

Not to pick nits, but are either of the above recommendations tallow-based? I'm also on the hunt for a good tallow-based rose soap, and was just about to pull the trigger on some Trumper's -- but if the scent's not there, might have to go glycerine...

Trumpers is no longer tallow based. I can't offhand think of a tallow based rose soap. Trumper is tripple milled, unlike QED, SCS, MB etc.

I love tallow soaps, but I think the good tripple milled vegetable oil based soaps are probably just as good, so I wouldn't drive yourself crazy trying to find a good tallow based rose soap when there are great vegetable oil based versions out there like GFT. But GFT, T&H, Provence Sante, Pre de Provence, Cade and any number of great soaps aren't tallow based. And some great soaps are tallow based (tabac, DRH, MWF, etc.). No clear winner between tallow and palm or whatever in my opinion.

Good point, and I remember reading that recently, about Trumper. I've just always had an easier time lathering my triple-milled soaps (Trumper's Lime, C&E Nomad, etc.) than my glycerine soaps -- but for a nice rose scent, I'd take the extra effort.

Which of the above-mentioned soaps (triple-milled or glycerine) would you think has a scent closest to Coral Skin Food? Which would you think is closest to Thayer's Rose?

Most all of your hard tripple milled soaps (tallow, palm, whatever based) have a lighter scent to them, IMO. I really like that about them, but I know some guys want a little more punch. Typically the glycerin MP soaps are big hitters when it comes to fragrance.

I think Trumper's rose soap (ironically) is closest to coral skin food. It's just more subtle and less sickly sweet. It is really very nice.

Mm, now that does sounds good. Now if I could only find a reasonably-priced rose cologne, we'd be all set! ;-)

Thanks for your help guys.............yes I have got some of Charles' soaps...........Wild Rose burnt my skin, and Rose Geranium is nice, but I'd prefer a "non glycerine" soap option. I have very sensitive skin, so the synthetic oils in the Wild Rose burnt my face off!!!!!!

I suppose when I mentioned Tallow based sopa, I meant 'anything but a glycerine cold pour soap".

OK, SCS Savory Rose cologne it is! Oh, and since the soap's only $5 more, have to pick that one up too... And there's the aftershave milk... But the Trumper sounds nice too...

There could be worse problems, though.

I hear that. Uncle Sam is being a nasty nasty man with me this year. No fun at all. I thought my nasty northeast mortgage was going to "protect me" more this year.

Of the non-tallow soaps I've tried, Trumper's Rose is probably my favorite. Very slick and thick, the rose scent is subtle but still pretty prominent, it justs permeates the shave. I really like rose scents, and it's enough for me, especially in light of it's great performance. It's a really hard soap, and lasts a long time. I soak mine in hot water, which really brings out the scent when lathering.

Sorry, I never actually tried the Trumper's Rose Cream to compare. But the soap is dead solid.

I find that Trumper rose soap is about the same. Try Evenmoore, Allmoody and Cobbs rose soap, its the best rose ive used. A bit costly though but worth it.
