What's new

Germany trip

Gentlemen,

i am am starting a two week trip in Germany and will be keeping an eye out for stuff I can't live without :001_rolle

Tabac is on my list to stock up on. Any other suggestions?

thanks in advance!

Have a nice trip. Look for some antique stores to find a Gillette Rocket or Parat or some good straights.

Thanks for info so far. Tabac does have a "new" fragrance, I had a whif but could not make up my mind if I liked it or not. Tabac should smell like Tabac I guess.....perhaps I will give it a go. I will keep an eye out for the Emeraude. Any suggestions on what kind of store to look in?

Where will you spend your time? Waht are you searching for? I come from Frankfurt.

You can find the tabac soap and a lot of other stuff (e.g. Speick) at "Müller" drug store. I think they have more shaving stuff than DM or Rossmann drug stores.

If you are going to Berlin, just visit the new Muhle-shop. Or thedifferentscent.

I have a few Calani soaps but don't know if they have a regular store.

I live in Germany and hope I can help...

For the standard goodies, I recommend DM Drogeriemarkt or Müller Drogeriemarkt. DM has slightly better prices for the basics (Euro Palmolive, tabac aftershave, Nivea products, 4711 Aftershave). I don't think I've seen speick etc St DM.

Müller has a much bigger selection, and I think most Müller also carry the higher end fragrance brands and associated shaving products. But at Müller you will find speick cream, stick, aftershave lotion, balm, all the tabac products, irisch Moos, pitralon (NOT the Swiss but the German and Austrians). What else. Weleda cream and balm (though I seem to recall weleda rasierwasser I had to get at DM).

One product I might suggest you try is Braukmann Classic. I have only seen at Müller, and it's a reasonable price and decent shave cream I think. The A/S splash I find very soothing, but the scent is very strong and lasts a significant amount of time, which isn't my preference, but I'm sure some would love the staying power. I think Braukmann is all-natural as well (don't hold me to that).

I also really like the weleda products, but all have kind of an odd smell. Functionally they are excellent though.

Last store is Manufaktum. This is a high end general store with everything from cheese to clothes and they carry expensive stuff and I think you'll only find in the biggest cities in Germany. You can find Swiss Pitralon, musgo real, I think trumpers, truefitt and Hill, they carry Spanish Floid, Klar Klassik soap, Klar AS, Knize products and some other nice items. You can visit their website to see more.

I have seen tabac products at Karstadt and speick products at Galeria Kaufhof, both in the fragrances department.

FYI in German shaving soap is rasierseife, shaving cream is rasiercreme, and aftershave is just aftershave or rasierwasser. Balm is Basalm.

Hope this helps. If you can make only 1 stop, make it Müller in my opinion. They have the biggest selection I have found and fair prices.

Eau d'Emeraude and a host of other wet shave stuff and colognes can be found in Manufactum stores.

Tabac, Speick and other drugstore brands are found at Muller or Rossman drugstores.

Aftershaves that you can't find easily here: Tüff, Pitralon, and Hättric are three I'd look for.

Tabac is about the same price so you might want to save the weight for the more exotic stuff.

bier und wurst

Not every beer in germany is good! The same with the sausages.

For beer travel to bavaria, only the small brewerys are very good.
For sausages you should not miss Thüringen, they where sometimes famous for good hones as well......

Greetings from Germany, Sebastian, PM me for some further tips.

What are the products that can be purchased at common supermarkets? Are there any?

The supermarkets are going to have the very basic stuff, and at a higher price than DM or Rossmann or Mueller. I would say normally you might find the Nivea shaving cream, maybe the Nivea balm or A/S lotion, I've seen Hattric aftershave. Maybe Adidas aftershave. This is at REWE or Edeka.

I'd suggest you stick to Mueller (best selection of shaving products) or DM or Rossmann. A lot of times if you can find a REWE or Edeka, a DM or Rossmann is next door. Places like Aldi or Netto or Penny supermarkets I doubt will have anything at all.

If you can find a Turkish supermarket (Karadag in Cologne), you can often find Arko sticks and Arko creams. Not sure if I have seen any Arko aftershaves....
