  1. Default Merkur HD Hefty Handle Double Edge Razor HELP!

Hello I was originally going to start shaving with a folding straight shavete but then I saw the ":Merkur HD" in the reviews forum and watched some of Mantic59's videos on you tube and it seems like a very nice razor but the review dident say if it was a hefty handle and thats all i can find or does HD mean hefty handle im so confused. Anyone have this razor and could post some better pics?

The Merkur HD is known by several different names..But the HD stands for Merkur Heavy Duty...or the Merkur #34C... Its a classic and is the go to razor for most newbies getting into wetshaving.

I can't post pics right now, but the HD stands for Heavy Duty. If you go http://www.classicshaving.com/catalo...941/284057.htm you'll see the HD there.

Get the one like on the pictures. Make sure it's not a slant.
    Or, get a vintage gillette...

Get the one with a bar, not a comb. Both sides shave the same. Good luck!

Merkur Heavy Duty is a wonderful razor & is not aggressive just a middle of the road. Great finish & its 2 piece for easy blade changing. Good luck

ps- don't press while shaving. Let the blade do its thing

Glad to see you're getting rid of that Zeepk -there's nothing worse than a dull straight razor (or better than a sharp one!). Enjoy your new Merkur HD.

    Welcome Aboard,

It is a really good razor. I did not like it at first. Needed to get my shaving technique down.

I have been always been thinking Heavy Duty means that it is not some overly mild razor like gillette tech. Cuts whiskers effectively with a payload that a good preparation/lather is needed.
I like my Merkur 34 C shaves so much that sometimes I think to order another one so I could try different blades in it instead Derbys. I am again thinking of going to load a Feather in it, as I feel my shave technique has developed. I am not expecting as good results though and if I had that second HD I could really compare the blades.
For me much much better and close shaves than with Progress.
