Thread: Unique to USA

    Default Unique to USA

    All

I feel quite lucky living in England that I have an abundance of access to all of the 3 T's products, Penhaligons etc etc.

However - I am coming over to Tampa for a couple of weeks and thought it might be nice to stock up on some different products whilst I'm there, things that are unique to the US and difficult to obtain back in England.

So, apart from Hershey bars what shaving related products are unique to the US market and is there anything you recommend?

I prefer creams to hard soaps, I prefer traditional (but classy) cologne such as Blenheim, Habit Rouge, Acqua di Parma etc.

    Thanks in advance,

    Arrows

C&E has some nice stuff. Just used the Sweet Almond Oil cream this morning. Bath and Body Works has the Bigelow cream. There's an Art of Shaving store in Miami.

I don't know that any of it is much to write home about if you have ready access to the high-end English stuff. But everybody needs a little strange now and then.

I would think this would be an easier approach.

Check around all the U.S. based websites. There are also a lot of awesome soap makers in the US. You may want to order everything online and just have it shipped to your hotel during your stay or having it waiting for you there. Generally, wet shaving products are far and few between in stores besides a couple such as C.O. Bigelow and C&E.

You could stock up on SCS Newspice and distribute once you got back home. There has been a lot of UK interest.

I think most of the US stuff most people use has to be ordered online. Not too much to pick up in stores.

    Product Features
Leaves the skin feeling fresh and moisturized, and the easy rinse formula doesn't clog your razor like other shave creams can.
Even though it's made for men, women love it for legs too!
    Made in Australia.
    Sorry

I don't know if they are limited to North America, but if you can find some Kiss My Face 'KMF' products you may want to try some. They can usually be found in the larger and upscale natural and whole food stores we have here in the states.

They make pretty good shave creams that come in pump bottles and tubes in a variety of scents. They can produce lather in almost any condition (lots of water, very little wate, whatever) and are a super value. The value will be even greater for you since the dollar is in the toilet these days.

I think that a lot of the good big name American brands have since been moved overseas as here the canned foam and gel has taken over. But where we colonists shine is in our smaller independent soapmakers. I don't know how many ship international, or whether it would even be possible to have anything shipped to you while here, but the Saint Charles Shave stuff is great, as is Honeybee soaps, Mama Bear, and QED. Those are just the ones I have personally tried. I know you can't get the SCS colognes shipped overseas, so if you can get them here to take home, they are worth it - wonderful scents (especially New Spice) and dirt cheap (in price only, not quality).

All the good products made in America are best found online. I doubt you will find much worthwhile relating to shaving. FWIW I would recommend you save your money and order some fine american products online (QEDman, Cremo Cream, Pacific Shaving). Not that there is necessarily anything wrong with it, but Kiss My Face is really nothing to write home about or for that matter to take home.

Just a heads-up: there's a Yuengling brewery in Tampa if you ever get thirsty. Nothing like walking from the Florida heat into a cool room that smells of beer!

I haven't made it out to the Yuengling brewery yet and I don't drink, but I did the Budweiser tour in St. Louis as a kid and it was great. If you're feeling adventurous I'd hit up as many eBay auctions & BST deals as you can to save on the shipping.

As for shaving stuff... order a lot of it online. Maybe get some William and VDH if you have the urge to try some of the cheap stuff.

Oh, and you might want to start taking pre-orders for some UK stuff that you can ship once you get to the States. Maybe you could finance some of your purchases by selling a little Boots on the side.
