What is your favorite shave setup?
I'm still experimenting with DE, so I can't really say what's my favourite. I've used various electrics in the past, as well as various forms of wet shave razors (cartridge and disposables), however, I've always had unsatisfactory shaves with them all. I tend to think that although the tools might have been a problem (particularly the electrics and disposables), it's also my technique that's really to blame.
I'm currently using a cheap Wilkinson Sword Classic razor (plastic one) with the blades that came with it. I used to use Gillette gel, but am now trying out the Man-U cream that came with the cheap brush I bought. I also have some Boots soap, but yet to use that (I've read after I bought it that it might not be that bad, even if a cheap soap). I'm using Nivea aftershave balm to finish off the shave and cool my skin down. Although I know I don't have a purist set-up (far from it), I'm really just seeing if DE shaving is for me. Sure, I know that the plastic razor has its limitations, but I'll take that into consideration before deciding if DE is for me or not. I'm loath to spend out a lot on shaving equipment to find that it's not for me (I have spent too much on previous electrics and have to justify my abandment of them to a wife... plus money is a bit tight).
Still, saying that, the cheap DE isn't working out that bad, as well as the using of a cheap brush and cream, and I might end up being encouraged to go for something better in future. My shaving has improved and the irritation that I used to get with cartridge and disposable razors has lessened greatly (bar my first and third shaves; I've done about seven shaves so far with the DE). So, all-in-all, I'm quite encouraged, even if still learning. One thing I've really appreciated with DE shaving is the need not to apply pressure when shaving and to maintain a good angle. I make mistakes, but less each shave, so maybe I'm learning.
If DE shaving continues to go well, I think I'll try to get to own a Gillette Super Speed as my first proper DE razor. However, that's a dream for now, I'm still in the process of learning.
Hmm... maybe I'll stop here, because this is going on a bit longer than I thought it initially would. ;)
What are your hobbies and favorite activities?
Films, computing, football (the version that's mostly played with the foot ;) ), various forms of music from classical to grindcore.
What else should the members of B&B know about you?
I don't look like my avatar. I don't respond to "Gort! Klaatu barada nikto!", although if I ever do attempt to destroy the Earth, then who knows, it might just work.
