I can't quite believe how well you were able to remove 49 years of wear and tear to restore the slim to its original state; probably even better than that with the custom paint job. Your craftsmanship and attention to detail show in all your pictures and videos and this was no exception. You make it look so effortless and easy and I am absolutely certain that it is neither.

I could not possibly be more pleased with your work and its' stellar results.

Once again, thank you very, very much.

You are most welcome, Antal:thumbup: I thoroughly enjoy restoring these beauties, even more so adding custom colors and a little personality:cool: It should be a great shaving tool that will last for many years to come, I am glad that you are satisfied with my work! Thank you!

My razor made it back safe and sound. Cap- you are right. It does look better in person than it does in the pictures. It is difficult to capture how well the red accents stand out against the nickel background. In any event, here are some pics of the fully restored Slim in my quite modest shave den.

The big question for me was not how well it looks ( and it is now a fine looking instrument ) but how well it performs. The Captain was able to fix a couple of mechanical issues ( most notably a bent safety bar with the accompanying uneven blade gap. I used it this morning with a new Rapira stainless blade on 5 and the results are extremely good after just one shave. The weight and balance are excellent. The knurled grip is superior to the lined grip on me EJ DE89. It is quite nimble in tight spaces. I was able to get a BBS shave with no irritation which is precisely what I was looking for. As I experiment with different blades and settings I am sure I will be able to truly optimize its performance. Is it the finest razor I own? It's early but my initial impression is that it is. It will figure prominently in my shave rotation going forward. I think there is a very good reason that the vintage Gillettes are so highly prized today. Its not nostalgia, its performance.

All in all, I believe I may have found my perfect razor and one person is responsible.

Captain Murphy, I salute you.

Antal

Antal, I am glad to hear that you are receiving the results you desire with your restored slim! I enjoy all vintage Gillettes, especially the adjustables. It was my pleasure to assist you with your slim cleanup/makeover! I am sure that it will get better, too! Thank you[emoji3]

So how much do you charge for this magic that you conjure? I just scored a slim from ebay for 15 but has defintely seen better times. Can I send/post some picture to see if there is hope?

Does this looks like something that can be cleaned? Or do you think I should look in to replating, it definitely seems like some of the plating has worn though, but the dial deal still seems to click. I do need to rock some scrubbing bubbles on it and a toothbrush to do some low level cleaning

Absolutely! I've seen far worse cleaned with simply hot water and dish soap and they turned out looking new! It does appear to have plating loss so that is an option to think about. There's also cerakote that I am a HUGE advocate of!

Give it a couple soaks and hit it with the bubbles and post some after shots. If you have a small brass bristled brush handy, they work great for picking up the slack that an old floppy toothbrush seems to exhibit. Good luck!
