    Default The Up Series

    Hey guys,

Quick question. Have any of you seen the "Up" series of documentaries? I just got 7 Up and 7 Up Plus Seven through Netflix and watched them last night. Very cool concept. Basically back in the early sixties, this documentarian, Michael Apsted, I believe, filmed and interviewed 14 seven year old kids of various social backgrounds and races all over England. 7 years later, he followed up and did the same. The series goes all the way up to either 42 or 49 Up(!), with him doing a follow up every seven years. Very interesting and thought provoking.

I watched this series several years ago in Australia. I really liked it. An interesting social experiment.

I'm currently watching it (have to watch 49 and wait for the next version in a few years) and it is definitely a landmark series. It is so fascinating to watch the personalities develop and see how their upbringing really influences them later in life. It's like watching waves go from ripples in the middle of the ocean to 30 ft monsters landing on the beaches of hawaii.

It's still in production? That's so cool!

It is! Michael Apted is the director and still alive and kicking. In fact, he is president of the Director's Guild. You'll notice later in the series they'll address someone named Michael, that's the director.

I'm blown away by this series. My friends and I have catch phrases we use from the series. "Say I don' loik greens, well I don't... And that's it."
