As some of you will know a while ago I asked which Pinaud scent I should try (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/412229-If-I-were-to-try-one-Pinaud-Clubman). The resounding winner was Pinaud Clubman Classic. Well, my sampler from Garry's Sample Shop arrived today and I've got all eight Pinaud scents here to try. I plan to review each of them and leave my impressions on them as I work my way through the pack. Feel free to leave your comments below!
Lilac Vegetal - Naturally I had to try the VEG first, it's not just a fragrance, but supposedly a life altering experience . I've just slathered some on, and it smells exactly like lilacs. I spent a couple summers working in a greenhouse in my early university days and this reminds me exactly of that, only with a sort of pungent musky undertone. I wasn't repulsed by the scent of it in the bottle, nor was I repulsed by it on me. That being said, I'm not in love with it either. It smells like what I would expect a 90 year old woman to. I'm still in the famous dry down period, so we'll see if things improve when I check in later.
It's dried down and my thought on it is that's it's nice. Not intoxicating or something I would want to keep smelling forever, but it's nice. Ironically I've found it to be a very mild scent. I could see myself wearing this in the future, but not as a main go to scent.
Vanilla - The Vanilla smelled the best out of the bottle, so I tried it next. A very delicate, delicious smell. There is a trace of vanilla here, but I smell other things as well, like jasmine. It's the most modern smelling of the group, and smells like it could be a mid range fragrance as opposed to a cheap one. It still has a little bit of old flair to it. I really like this one, and can see it being part of my rotation. I found it dissipated within a couple hours though, which is unfortunate since I'd like to use it as a fragrance.
Original - The first smell out of the bottle smelled a lot like a very old lady's perfume, like some of those really old Chanel blends. This made me question all the talk of manliness the Original has gotten on the forums, but the people voted and I wasn't about to let them down. I slathered some on and apparently when applied in bulk to the face it changes, because it took on a very manly, excellent scent. The scent of the original is present in all of the Pinaud concoctions to my nose, and it's kind of nice to have that elusive "integral" part of the fragrance in full force proudly on display. From the bottle I thought this was going to be one of my least favourites, but while wearing I really enjoyed this one. It turns out democracy does work This one had the most sillage of the three I've tried so far (strength of scent) but it seemed to wear off within an hour, which is a problem I seem to be having with all of the Pinaud fragrances. A lot of reviews have commented on how long they last, but I just don't seem to be getting that. Which is a shame, because I really liked this one.
