So in a rush I decided I was going to refresh a goldwashed ERN before a shave. Well I gave it a couple strokes on my pasted strop before I realized my rookie mistake. CrOX will remove gold....UGH! I lost a decent amount of the wash with only a few strokes. I stopped when I realized what I had done but it was too late. Don't do what I did, if it's gold then tape it.

I'm almost glad I don't have any with gold wash on the spines, I'm sure this is the kind of thing that I would've done too!
I guess you can take it as a lesson learned!
Next time you hone it, might as well hone it without tape anyway to make everything uniform.

Don't feel bad. Used metal polish lately on a Filly doble temple. The blade was really shiny afterwards but the gold wash was gone!

Use clear nail polish to protect the gold wash. Use nail polish remover after honing and don't get on the scales. Or don't use tape.

Please send to Belgium where it will be put into retirement in my top drawer.

Don't be too hard on yourself. Gold wash was never meant to last a few weeks. It was to make a razor eye catching in the shop.
