Default First Shave with Merkur Slant 39C

Got my Merkur Slant today and of course couldn't wait to try it. Just got done with my first shave with slant and here I am writing my first impression .

Only fair to write about what essentials were used:
    Shavemac XXL
    TOBS Avacado
    Feather blade
    Merkur Slant barber pole.

Now I hadn't shaved in three days and all I can say after my first shave with slant is WOW . Haven't had a shave this close in a long long time. Slant is a little aggressive and I got a few nicks but nothing that can't be taken care of with an improved technique.

Anyone else started using slant recently? If so please do post the brush and cream used as well .

    Sounds swell!

I was on the way to purchase a barber pole slant and, wouldn't you know, I bumped into a straight razor . It would seem I'm hooked although I may need a slant for when I get the straight re-honed...

I am lusting after the barberpole slant but have a custom straight on order. But, I have put the bug out there for Father's day that I would like one... Who knows?

I just got a slant, and other than a few nicks (I need to improve my technique), my shave was very smooth. So far so good, but I think I'll keep my merkur classic around for when I am feeling lazy and sloppy.

Also I think I will use my C&E nomad cream (not the best, but the best I have) as it provides more protection than the col conk bay rum soap I used today.

I had the original Slant and recently picked up a BP Slant. I love it. The first shave with the original was super close but I had some nicks. I used Olive Oil Soap and AOS unscented for a superlather and the Merkur blade.

Subsequent shaves with the BP, a Derby and a gentler touch have proven phenomenal. I'll eventually try Crystals and Feathers as well as straight soaps and creams with it.

The Slant is the only razor I can cleanly shave under my chin, where it begins to curve to the neck without any nicks or cuts. The hair grows in several directions and other DEs require more passes.
Yeah, we use DE's to save money. My money savings. Let me show you them.

    Hot damn, I am soooth!!!

Shave #2 with the slant (this time with the C&E numad cream, which was never a star perfomer with my merkur classic), and I can honestly say it is the best shave I have ever had.

I'm really trying to slow down on getting new razors, but I don't think I can hold out on getting a slant for much longer. Maybe I'll thin the herd a liitle first...

Slant is my third razor and I think I will be content with this purchase for a while. I think the next step will be a straight if I ever want to go that way. I haven't tried any other blade besides Feathers so don't know how the others will perform.

Man, I can't wait to get mine. I'm actually waiting for the color versions to arrive. I'm particularly interested in the blue one.

Once you go straight you'll never want to go back. My one and only straight is being re-honed at present and using my HD just isn't the thrill it once was.
