The "best" razor shaves horribly if not honed correctly.

A cheap razor shaves great if honed correctly.

As long as the steel is good.

The "weird" thing was it CAME honed like this. From ebay no less....I emailed the gentleman and he used a pretty standard progression of naniwa SS stones and finished on .5 diamond on felt. And then to quote him" then strop, strop and strop again, them more strop and edge is good" AMEN, to that cuz it worked. Now I have to figure out how to get my other straights to the same level.

yea I thought that it was "weird" for a few reasons... I mean the guy is not a Belgian monk (coti), Nor the great grand master from a ninja clan (jnat), not even a journeyman B&B user who has voyaged far and wide in an endless journey to find the cheapest and most effective way to produce a sharp edge (lapping film). He seems like just a guy who bought a couple Synth stones and honed up the razor.... and yet Velvet Squeegee.... Its almost unthinkable........ Maybe Lance was wrong... maybe it IS about the razor?
