Default hand turned zebra wood brush

First off I want to say thank you to bman40 and dayoldstubble for their help in getting ready to turn this. I had a lot of questions for them and they were both very helpful.

I turned this out of some zebra wood that my dad had around, and picked up the knot at golden nib.

I turned 2 in one spindle so that I could decide if I liked the narrow or thick handle better. I ended up using the narrow one because it looked better with the 20 mm knot. I am pretty happy with it, but there are a few things I would do differently next time. I am sure I will turn another.

I used 8 coats of indoor/outdoor polyurethane. I have yet to get it wet, but I assume that will hold up for a while. The hint of white you can see at the base of the knot is marine grade epoxy. Unfortunately I estimated wrong, and a bit seeped out and you can see it. On the other hand it will keep water from getting down between the knot and wood. For $23 plus a little time (which I enjoyed) definitely worth it.

It is a very pretty brush and (I'm sure) a pleasure to use something that you created.

BTW, my hitch hikers thumb beats yours!

I turned another zebra one for myself in best, and a oak one for a friend. I found that clear epoxy is awesome for sealing handles. Both zebra are used and in bloom, the oak is for him to use. I made one more, but it went to another forum member, I figured it would be fair to let him post his own.

Wow Rodd, those are amazing! I'm not a fan of the ceramic handles most brushes have and was just thinking it would be great to have a handle made from wood. So my only question is.. are you taking orders?
