I have resolutely avoided even looking into this forum for many reasons not the least of which is that one more Acquisition Disorder and I dis-acquire a very decent wife. Yesterday, however, there was this opening sequence in the finale of this season's Hannibal in which he was handwriting an invitation to dinner for, ostensibly, his next victim/meal.

The scene captured the pen/ink/paper interaction in such a sensuous way that it made writing by hand seem almost forbidden. And omg, whoever they got to do the stunt handwriting is an artist. It was just a beautiful, simple and yet calligraphically erotic few seconds of TV.

Now I get what you rascals are up to. Still not buying any pens, but I get. I get it.

Hey oakeschott! Good to see you here! Just a couple-a bucks can get you a gateway drug (Pilot Metro / Lamy Safari / dip pen with flex nib, for example) and you'll be sucked in...

But the writing experience with a smooth nib on quality paper...yeah...sweet.

Lol that is how it starts. I've got nothing good in the way of calligraphy, but copperplate and italic are both on my to do list.

Loved every episode of Hannibal, great series. The cherry on top was the scene you referenced. I rewound it a couple times to watch it and SWMBO just rolled her eyes at me. She knew that it would only fuel the fire that has already been lit in me :)

Staggeringly beautiful calligraphy there, James, but you lack a certain serial killer intensity that Hannibal expresses so well. Perhaps some time spent in the straight razor forum with us barely evolved bloodletters will correct that.

But seriously, I find it hard to believe that humans can do that. Simply amazing.

Funny you mention Italics, because I bought some Brause LH Italics and still cannot use them, can't get them to flow correctly. Think I'm going to PIF them, they frustrate me, lol. Jealous of anyone that can use one, James. You're work with the dip pen has long fueled my calligraphy fire, thanks dude.

i haven't had them out in a while... wonder how it would look... there are lots of people who uave surpassed my skill i see around. its fun to watch for sure
