I think that I'd rather have my gear stolen

Yeah I always carry any valuables onto a plane after TSA (or baggage handlers) stole my electric razor and two bottles of cologne from me.

Yep. A few years back I has a GPS, Digital Camera and Playstation Portable stolen from my checked bag.

Yup always carry my gear and refuse to check it. On one hand glad it's not just me being paranoid, but wowser.

Those are just Canadians being efficient!

Anything valuable I can't carry gets shipped to my destination or shipped back home.

I've always carried my camera on. To much money invested for anything to happen to my camera.

If you are traveling with film, make sure to carry it on too. The scanners for checked luggage are much more powerful. Most film can withstand a few scans with the carry on scanners, but it never hurts to ask for hand inspection. Especially if it's 400iso or higher
