    Default Any other poker lovers?

I'm sure I'm not the only one who's nuts about poker. My all-time favorite for a live card game is undoubtedly Five-Card, but I love 7-Card-Stud and Hold 'Em as well and generally play those online. I've had horrible luck so far today, though . What's your favorite game? What kind of player are you? Speak up, poker enthusiasts!

I stick with Hold 'em and mostly play turbo sit n go online. I am too scared to play cash games but I love a good casino tournament.

me and my friends have poker nights every now and then. from $5 to $20 buy in depending on situation. This smallish buy in is small enough to not make any major financial problems for any of us, but enough for us to want to win.

    every time its hold'em.

    hooray for hold'em!

Personally, I'm over hold 'em. As much as I loved Casino Royale, I was pretty disappointed to see the plot revolve around a high stakes Texas Hold 'em tournament. Look guys! It's the World Series of Poker with guns!

I wont deny the game has strategy, I just feel like too much of it revolves around dramatically going 'all in'. This is the only game that most people my age know how to play, which is a little sad.

My main gripe is that by the flop, (or in many cases before the flop) the field has narrowed to 2-3 players on the table. The average time actually spent playing poker is quite small, and the other players just sit around idly. (Though I guess if they're other Hold 'em junkies they watch with rabid fascination, but that's beyond me...) I prefer split pot games, as you've got just as good a shot at taking half the pot if you've got a horrible hand. It makes for much more interesting and fast paced betting, and more time actually playing rather than watching from the side.

Give me interesting, split pot games like Burn, Chicago, Omaha, No-peekie, 1-4-1 P.O.P., and of course, 5 Card Stud!

I agree with you rkt. The problem is that an all-in strategy can be used in good etiquette in certain situations, but most people don't play like this. There are basically three different ways that an all-in can be used to your advantage, although it should be a rare thing.

Firstly, it can be used of course when you know for a fact that you have the best possible hand, and your opponent couldn't have better than you with the community cards on the board.

Another way is when your hand is as good as it's going to get, and you don't want your opponent's hand to get any stronger. Yesterday, in a rare instance I went all-in with pocket Aces and flopped A 2 2. No way he could've had better, unless he was holding pocket deuces and that was a long-shot.

And, of course, the infamous all-in when you're just trying to bluff someone to fold. Therein lies the problem, the majority of people are crappy players and have no skill. They use the all-in just to intimidate, because they lack the brainpower required to actually play their hands apparently. I don't care what ANY pro poker player says, there is an ENORMOUS element of luck when it comes to Hold 'Em. The only "skill" involved is reading other players, calculating pot odds quickly in your head, and in the betting. It's also much easier to bully the board if you're chip leader. If you have these things under control, you can be a great Hold 'Em player. I just like Hold 'Em because it is exciting and it's easy to win people's money because most are crappy players . How can they say that it's all about skill when you have no control over what's going to appear on the board? I prefer 5-card in live games, I guess I prefer the "traditional" aspect of it and the skill involved in knowing what cards to let go and which ones to keep. 5-card : Texas Hold 'Em as DE or straight shaving : cartridge shaving .

That being said, I enjoy being a tight, conservative player. I guess this stems from me not having the luxury of being a huge risk-taker with money :). I get to sit back and watch others play, making mental notes of each player along the way. But watch out when I start betting and raising :).

I play alot of poker too. Mostly holdem (both no limit & limit) & 7 card stud but I can switch gears & play PLO & stud 8 also. I concentrate mainly on cash games...both live & online. I don't really play many tourneys.

Nope, not at all apparently. Then again I haven't been playing online for long. Not sure of previous legislation.

The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) did not make poker illegal in the US, only the ways to fund your online account. You can still play but only at certain sites because some of them voluntarily withdrew from the US. I would recommend Full Tilt Poker or Poker Stars. These are the 2 largest poker sites. Beware of Absolute Poker as you'll probably get cheated over there.

Hold 'em for me, which has helped to improve my 5 card game.

Once went ot a local Casino with my kid brother and my Dad and entered a £10 (+ 3 rebuys and one add-on) game and came 10th out of about 150 players. My brother won it and got £750.

We keep meaning to go back to play some £30 freeze-outs but just haven't got round to it yet.

Does anybody use neteller to get money into and out of his poker accounts?
I have 59.18$ and if I ask it back and then convert to euro, well that doesn't leave me with much so I will try to find someone maybe to make a trade or something. I cannot post in the shaving mall yet so I am just asking if there is anybody you know that would be interested in this.

    Cheers

Most of the posters on this forum are from the US & since NT decided to screw us, you probably won't have much luck.
