"Sheer Madness"

Those are the words used by prince Charles to describe global warming doubters.....I hear he is an expert on the subject......Madness that is (Di for Camilla)....He should get out more.....Here's a view this afternoon from a porch deep in Dixie.....I'd fancy seeing him dancing around in my front yard arms flailing about shouting "Madness! Madness! Sheer madness I tell you!"....

you fail to understand the concept,
global warming wont cause it to be summer all year long, higher avarage temeratures at some seasons cause chances to air and water currents, the idea is that cold and heat is exchanges between different parts of the world by currents which mantains the stability of the seasons, as global warming worsens, you can expect hotter summers, but also expert harsher winters and for spring and authum to disappear,

the main problem with global warming isnt going to be the maximum temperatures, its going to be the differance between max and min temperatures,

you fail to understand the concept
Rolling in the snow laughing my *** off.........Really, I am.......This condescension is exactly what makes it all so laughable.........If it's hot it's cited as a result of global warming, if it's cold it's cited as global warming....Reminds me of Reverend Ike's lucky coin...."Blessings" stamped on one side, "Good Luck" stamped on the other....."Flip that coin brother and tell me what you get. See, you can't loose with my lucky coin"....Would you be interested in selling me some carbon credits? I've got a whole bag full of lucky coins.........

Did anyone see this interview on global warming?

Well, there are few people who doubt the warming. Sure, there is debate about the causes and possible actions to be taken, but very few seriously doubt the warming itself.

"Look, it's snowing" is hardly a counter argument.

All I have to say on global warming is this: The Earth is a living thing, as is our Sun and the rest of our planets in our solar system, galaxy, and the rest of the known universe(as we understand it). The Sun is getting progressively warmer, as it will as this is the life of star(eventually as it begins to run out of hydrogen to burn as fuel, the Sun will grow several hundred times it's current size and encompass Mercury, Venus and possibly even Earth)until it collapses. However, it's nothing for us to worry about as this will take anywhere from 3 to 9 billion years from now(or so I believe this is the most recent estimate)because of this, the planets themselves go through stages of their own involving vast changes in temperature. The Earth used to be a great deal colder than it is now. Mars was at one point a great deal warmer than it is now. Most astronomers believe that Venus was also a much cooler world a few million years ago or so. Is the Earth warming? Possibly. Is it man made? Possibly. The problem is that we simply do not know enough about the climate stages of our world to answer this question definitely. I say this as I believe this is the stance that most competent members of the science community have taken on the subject. Many have chosen sides for other reasons, be it money or recognition or maybe they believe there is enough evidence to determine one way or the other. I think it's great that we are doing what we can to minimize our impact on the environment. But at the same time I take issue with how we are going about it.

I watched a show regarding global warming not to long ago. The show made several references to the film by Al Gore. According to this film, the planet is right on track with what has gone on, temperature wise, over the last 1000 years. In Al Gore's film he uses graphs to show planet temperature over the last couple of centuries and those graphs are acurate but, a closer look at those graphs will show the rise and fall of the planets temp. before we started using fossil fuels, or hairspray in a can, or any other things that are now blamed for global warming. As for the greenhouse affect, we , over the last couple hundred years, have contributed to that particular section of the atmosphere but, we have changed that section of the atmosphere by less than 2% and that entire section of the atmosphere makes up less than 5% of the total atmosphere of our planet.

just my 2 cents

I have to agree that the earth is a living thing and that it will go through stages of warming and cooling. I do feel that the global warming scare will bring good things by minimizing our impact on the environment.

There was a recent news item that said researchers have determined that there has been a general cooling trend for the past few years and we could be heading for an ice age. Go figure, it depends on which scientists you listen to.

...or who's buying and who's selling...
...Bjrn,
"Look, it's snowing" is hardly a counter argument.
...No more so than "Look it's melting" anyway wouldn't you say?.....So how do you feel about his taste in women, or is that purely subjective also.....

...Bjrn, so how do you feel about his taste in women, or is that purely subjective also.....
Clearly taste is inherently subjective. And I'd say his taste in women really doesn't concern anybody but him (unless you greatly enjoy gossiping about royalty).

Well life is full of little examples where we try to make sense of things people say and do by reflecting on other things they have done in order to get a feel for their tastes and character...The sheer madness manifested in more than one area.........I wonder.........can she cook?

Royal gossip is not required. They put themselves out there and represent themselves as relevant global policy advisors.....

So how about the credentials of the "Look it's melting" crowd?.........I can tolerate the debate among scientists with a straight face, but the debate among these political types is laughable.......Much like a child repeating what he hears an adult say that brings laughter from other adults, hoping to garner relevance, while understanding nothing of what was said in the first place......Cute in children, but less so in adults.....

It's even more frustrating when those adults are making millions off global fear.

(mmmmm, pie!)

but seriously, I agree with this sentiment, the majority of the global warming hype is being used for mass manipulation
also +1 to the statement about politicians repeating things as a child would repeat an adult

I keep wondering (during this, one of Chicago's coldest and snowiest winters in history, what gasoline driven cars, with a terrible "carbon footprint" and what manufacturing process from what civilization ended the last ice age, and got rid of the glaciers that made the gravel pits north and northwest of the city, that provide the gravel for the concrete that make the roads for the evil non-Prius cars to drive on?

Because things can't just happen-- climates can't just change, there have to be PEOPLE involved to cause these things. There must have been a civilization of rich Republicans who made those glaciers go away, 10,000 years ago or more.

I think they did it to put the Native Americans out of work, to displace them, until they could get their casinos running.:lol:

And since you mentioned Charles/Camilla-- I recall the time he backed over one of his Royal Mother's beloved Corgis. He felt terrible. Then he looked down, and saw this bottle. Rubbing it, a Genie appeared-- saying that he would grant Prince Charles a wish. "I should like it very much," mumbled the Prince, if you would restore the Queen's Corgi to life."

The genie backpedaled-- "I'm a genie, to be sure", he said, "But there is a limit to what I can do. I can't accomplish this for you-- it would be too much for me. Think of something else."

So Charles pondered. Then, "I was once married to this beautiful woman, life was good, and then I found Camilla. Then Diana tragically passed away. Is there any way that you could somehow make Camilla look like Diana?"

The genie thought for a second....stroked his chin and said, "Yes, well then, let's talk again about this dog...":lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

I can tolerate the debate among scientists with a straight face
interesting choice of phrasing I must way - no wonder you have issues with Bjorn's statement:
"Look, it's snowing" is hardly a counter argument.

I'm sure if you happened to live on Mars you'll be changing your position on global warming and global cooling every 12 hours.

Always, nice to chat about Charles' taste in women (perhaps the men could've been included as well), do we also get to discuss yours?
