    Smile I Gotta Smile At....

I gotta smile at all the posts by guys who buy and then wonder what it is they've purchased.

    What are they thinking?

"Hey, that thing looks pretty cool -- I think I'll buy it. Hmmm ... wonder what it is?"

It's kinda hard figuring out what's the appropriate amount to pay when you don't know what you're buying -- isn't it?

(Oh, I understand the guys who pick up a Fatboy for $6 at a flea market or antique store -- but these folks who pay $50 - $75 or $100 or more on-line for razors they can't even identify?)

The AD force is strong in this one Master.

I'm not criticizing, everyone has their own thing. Hell, I've got enough shaving soap collected for the next 5 years.

But as I said, I gotta smile....

It's the same principle as lottery tickets, the possibility of a reward can be very motivating, sometimes moreso than the reward itself. I think it's fun for those people to buy something because it might be a great buy.

+1 sometimes you gotta ride that horse till it bucks you off. That's how the U.S. economy works, impulse buying. Its when they come and find us here looking for help, thats when that smile appears on my face..

ahh.. I can see it now.. "can anyone tell me what this razor is....."

I don't think there is anything at all wrong with buying an unfamiliar razor. In fact, I can imagine several reasons one might do it.

Perhaps the buyer simply appreciates the aesthetic nature of the razor and wants it in the collection. (Information is secondary.)

Or maybe the buyer is curious about trying a particular feature such as an open comb. (Again...information is secondary.)

Or maybe the buyer recognizes the "family" of razor, such as the English Rocket, which tells him a ballpark collection value, but does not know the specific model such as the standard Rocket, Rocket FT, HD, HD 500, English Parat, German Parat, etc.

In fact, one might argue it's that blind "intuition" which distinguishes the serious collector with the "good eye" from the ever-struggling, can't-seem-to-find-the-good-deals amateur enthusiast.

I don't know. I only theorize out loud.

I'm with you on this one Al. Neither have I. I figure for every day I don't buy a ticket, it's a day I won another dollar....

I have only bought a couple in my life. I made a deal with myself that every time it gets over 300 million I would buy one. I have spent $3 so far and won $15

I can quit at any time that I decide to. Unfortunately, I have NO control over when (if ever) that decision might occur.

That's interesting. The plastic has that Merkur thickness and curve combo, but the handle design reminds me of the old Ever-Readys. Hmm...

I don't think you call call buying a lottery ticket gambling. I think it is called throwing your money away.

    13, HA. You silly pauper!

With 13 I would be playing all the time. With 300 it is very infrequent.

It's a great system, called Ready, Fire, Aim. My wife uses it all the time.

As for gambling, I buy instant lottery tickets and enclose one with each invoice I send to clients. Seems to keep everyone happy.

    Cheers
