    Tony,

What model did you upgrade to? I have an eTrex legend that I have been using for about 3 years. For geocaching. Great sport. Love to spend Sat mornings walking through the woods of Western Pa looking for well hidden ammo can.

I upgraded to the eTrex Vista. All of the extra features actually make it a bit harder to use for geocaching but the maps are nice.

Really. Most of the time it did an amazing job for me. Found me 100+ geocaches.

That's a bummer, I ordered and Etrex H from Amazon UK only yesterday as I fancied a bit of geocaching!

    Tony,
How well does this work in say a deep canyon or under heavy tree cover? Can you get it to display in UTM vs Long Lat? I typically take a USG map with me and they are easier to read in UTM.

    Thanks,

    Mike

    Hi Mike,
I believe the available position formats are:
Lat/Lon, UTM/UPS (AMG or MGA), Maidenhead, and MGRS etc. (17 all together)

I'm not sure how it does in a deep canyon, it hasn't left the Midwest yet.
Heavy tree cover can go both ways. I have had great signals in the middle of the woods and I have had it be off by 50 ft.

This has also been true of all the units I have tried expect the 60CSx but I can't justify paying $400+ to find boxes in the woods

Really cloudy days seem to be the trickiest situation for the handheld units I have tried.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
