    Default 6/8,7/8,8/8 or larger???

    Hi all

I am now seeking my new razor, but I need help with some more things.

What is best, easyest, to use and start with when it comes to the size of the blade? A 6/8 or a 8/8? Or a larger one?

I think the grind is a bigger deal than the size. I would try to start with a 1/4 or 1/2 hollow of some sort. I started with a 5/8 half hollow and I can say it is easier to work with than my 6/8 full hollow. I'm no expert, but the general concensus seems to agree with that same conclusion.

To answer the actual question: I would try to stay clear of really small or large blades, look for a 5/8 or 6/8.

5/8 or 6/8 should do you fine. It's a sort of middle of the road size, and also the sizes which are most widely available. And I'd go for a razor with at least a somewhat rounded point.

A sharp one. All other factors pale into insignificance.

He's right, unless you are a sado-masochist like me, a "shave ready" would be the smart way to go.

Not as arduous or rewarding as starting with a dull flea-market blade and resurrecting it, but MUCH easier.

+1. Size is completely personal preference and you won't know until you try a few.

Buy one that you really like. Maybe you like the look of a 7/8, or 8/8. If that speaks to you more than a 5/8 then get it!

That's what I did, I have a 7/8 as my first razor, and I love it. Maybe I'll come to find later that indeed a 5/8 or 6/8 are more manueverable on my face, but for now ignorance is bliss. I liked the look of the Henckels 7/8, so I got it, even though common sense would say perhaps it's better to start with something more middle of the road in terms of size.
