Default Newbie/Lurker coming out of the shadows

    Hello All,

Time for my long overdue shout out to the members. I've been lurking on B&B for a few months now and finally got around to joining. I've found the review section and the forums to be of great value. I've gotten so much good advice here that I've really progressed quickly into my new "hobby".

Like many others here, I'm a refugee from mindless cartridge shaving each morning. For me it was shaving as quickly as possible in the shower, with lots of razor burn every morning. I tried switching to an electric razor for a few months to try to help my aching face. It did get rid of the razor burn, but made me look like I had shaved with a rake (an actual quote from a friend). No burn, but not close.

I was doing a google search on which electric shaved closer, foil or rotary, when I came across a review that caught my eye. The reviewer said that neither a foil or rotary will ever get you a close shave. And cartridge razors should be considered cruel and unusual punishment. He went on to say that if you want to get a close shave with no irritation, you really need to get an old fashioned DE razor, a good brush and some good cream. It really made me think.

So I started doing some more searching and I found the Badger & Blade. Based on the information I found here, I bought a Merkur HD, a nice badger hair brush and some Trumpers Lavender cream. Fast forward a month or two and I've got quite a collection; Gillette Super Speed, Slim Adjustable and New to go with the HD. Also a kings ransom of shaving soaps, creams and after shaves.

From the day my HD, brush and Taylors arrived its been shaving nirvana. Even with my very first shave, its very rare that I get even so much as a nick. Razor burn is a thing of the past. I can't wait to get up each morning to do something I used to dread. All of the sudden, I'm like some Zen Master in search of the ultimate shave.

Thats my story, and I'll bet its familiar to many of you. So now I've got a nice smooth face and smaller bank account. My side of the vanity is pretty crowded and my wife is convinced I've finally gone crazy. But on the flipside she says I smell great!
